The Volunteer Service department is part of the larger People portfolio and aims to provide meaningful support and guidance to our patients, families, and residents throughout their time at Unity Health and enhance their experience throughout a variety of different settings (Gift Shop, Courtesy, Friendly Visiting, etc.). The primary role of the Youth Coordinator, Volunteer Services is to assist the Director or Leadership & OD and Volunteer Services and Operations Lead in implementing the main elements of the volunteer management cycle: planning, recruitment, orientation and training, supervision and evaluation, and recognition specifically focused on youth (aged 14--21) volunteers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively review applications for youth program volunteer and corresponding reference letters
  • Conduct screening, interviewing and placement youth volunteers with associated programs
  • Oversee and maintain youth application processes, including wait lists
  • Actively promote and recruit for youth volunteer programs through a multitude of mediums (volunteer fairs, social media, Unity Health website)
  • Collaborate with volunteer coordinator to develop and maintain youth volunteer orientation content and materials (including online versions & flipbook)
  • Provide or arrange youth volunteer training, as required and monitor training checklist
  • Serve as a first point of contact for youth volunteers with issues and concerns; provide coaching when necessary
  • Participate as an effective team member of the Volunteers Services team in the design of strategic priorities, principles, protocols and support to quality and risk development
  • Provide metrics, as required, including the monthly compilation of youth volunteer hours, annual volunteer service reports, attendance reports, volunteer recognition lists, etc.
  • Actively engage in youth volunteer recognition events, (hospital events or committees)
  • Develop new and leverage existing partnerships, services and supports with a focus on youth engagement
  • Network with other youth related agencies for the benefit of youth volunteer programming
  • Assist in the development of content and facilitation of orientation sessions
  • Coach youth volunteers for improved performance, empowerment/comfort in their role
  • Act as first point of contact for youth volunteers
  • Assist with volunteer communication plan including social media and story generation focused on youth volunteers
  • Collaborate with team to assist with other volunteer service related recognition events/items
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Oversee onboarding of new youth volunteers (registration, health screening, ID badges, and uniforms)
  • Facilitate outgoing youth volunteers throughout their life cycle (de-registration process, exit survey)
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Post-secondary diploma (Volunteer Management, Human Resources, Recreation) or equivalent experience
  • Two (2) year of previous related job experience working with youth 14-21 years of age
  • Two (2) years of previous volunteer coordinator experience preferred
  • Demonstrated outreach, organizational, and teamwork skills
  • Strong social media skills and proven record of success in promoting youth activities;
  • Intermediate skill level of computer related software applications, (e.g., MS Office Suite, Survey Monkey, and Mail Chimp).
  • Volunteer database experience an asset
  • Customer focused, with the ability to meet or exceed the needs of internal and external customer requirements
  • Excellent presentation skills--ability to deliver quality presentations (orientation) utilizing up to date technology
  • Proven communication skills, with the ability to listen for clarity and meaning to ensure mutual understanding in a conversation;
  • Demonstrated ability to encourage and coach youth volunteers for improved performance
  • Demonstrated team player, with the ability to interact with coworkers, volunteers, etc., in a positive manner required
