Shifts Available

Shanoa's Place
Part-time (32 hour bi-weekly) Saturday and Sunday - 8:00am - 4:00pm (option to pick up shifts up to 80 hours bi-weekly) Hourly Rate: $19.39/hour to $24.24/hour depending on education and experience
Grahams Place
Full-time (76 hours bi-weekly) Shifts as follows: Week 1 Monday - 7p-7a, Tuesday, Wednesday - 9p-7a, Saturday - 9p-9a Week 2 Sunday - 9p-7a, Thursday - 7p-7a, Friday - 7p-9a Hourly Rate: $19.39/hour to $24.24/hour depending on education and experience

The Youth Worker will be responsible for and provide a safe environment for youth living in our Supportive Housing program. The Youth Worker will directly supervise youth during their shifts. This individual will act as a role model for the youth, build meaningful relationships, and have a hands-on role with developing the youths’ basic life skills and self-confidence. Daily documentation is an essential part of this role, therefore successful candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills and hold themselves accountable to completing their regular duties and documentation. This individual’s diligence, compassion, self-motivation and responsibility will make them successful in their role as we continue to care for our at-risk youth.

Responsibilities
Supervision of Youth in the Supportive Housing Program

  • Maintain a consistent family/home environment for the youth.
  • Role model calm assertiveness, consistency and relationship building.
  • Work with individual youth on safety and crisis planning and teach basic life skills such as cooking and cleaning.
  • Plan weekly activities for youth.
  • Adhere to YESS policies and procedures around intake, discharge, completion of contact notes and uploading to ETO.
  • Ensure all internal and external documentation is completed by the end of each shift.
  • Coordinate with kitchen staff and team mates to provide daily means for youth.
  • Ensure residence is maintained to YESS and Provincial standards of cleanliness.

Ensure Safety of Youth, Staff and Agency Facilities
  • Conduct regular bed and building checks, in accordance with Agency policies and procedures.
  • Where client safety and security are compromised, manage situations by demonstrating an ability to prioritize, delegate and assume authority, while keeping with Agency policies and procedures.
  • Promptly inform supervisor of any issues or concerns that may occur while on shift.
  • Plan and conduct fire drills on a regular basis, both at daytime and night hours.

Develop Personal and Professional Competencies
  • Provide a professional level of service to donors
  • Promote the Agency in a positive manner to the outside community
  • Participate in training opportunities and “shadow shifts”
  • Participate in supervision and annual performance appraisals, including the completion of self-appraisals
  • Identify new personal development opportunities and maintain an involvement in ongoing professional development
  • Participate in mandatory staff training, team meetings, and staff meetings as required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Human Services or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a group home is required
  • Child and Youth Care experience would be considered an asset
  • Prior not-for-profit work experience is considered an asset
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Previous experience working with ETO is considered an asset

Other Requirements

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Clean Criminal Record (CRIM) and Child and Youth Intervention (CYIM) checks that are no more than six (6) months old
  • Proof of vehicle insurance (at least $ 1 million third party liability)
  • Valid Standard First Aid certificate
  • Valid Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) certificate
  • Medication Administration certificate
