Job Title: Translation and Interpretation Coordinator Location: St. John\xe2\x80\x99s, NL Position Type: 1 full-time position Closing date: April 11, 2023
Reporting to the Manager of Settlement Services, the Translation and Interpretation Coordinator is responsible for overall development and delivery of interpretation and translations services including the recruitment, training and coordination of interpreters.
Under the supervision and direction of the Manager of Settlement Services, the incumbent\xe2\x80\x99s responsibilities include:
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Recruitment of interpreters
  • Complete Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check for all potential interpreters.
  • Orientation and training of interpreters.
  • Maintain an up to date directory of interpreters to confirm
  • Ensure interpreters receive timely payment for services.
  • Maintain and enter accurate consistent program statistics.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement and development of policies and procedures relevant to the advancement of interpretation/translation services.
  • Inform the process of certification of translators.
  • Participate in the recruitment and onboarding of new staff.
  • Monitor staff performance providing mentorship and guidance where required.
  • Provide management with regular program statistics and reports as required.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, or Humanities or a combination of equivalent experience and education.
  • Experience in the coordination and management of interpretation/translation services.
  • Strong administrative skills.
  • Experience in effective program and process development.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with a variety of community stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication (written and oral) skills.
  • Strong computer skills including Excel and spreadsheets.
  • Experience writing project reports and meeting compliance requirements of funders.
  • Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity in working with diverse client groups.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize competing priorities.
  • Ability to speak an additional language/s an asset.

Conditions of Employment
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada.
  • Valid class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
  • Flexible to work outside of standard core hours as needed.
  • Position is subject to a satisfactory Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
