OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR
(RESEARCH MARKETING MANAGER) Faculty of Science Department of Ocean Sciences (Part-Time Contractual Position to November 20, 2023; 20 Hours per Week)

DUTIES
Reporting to the Head of the Department of Ocean Sciences, this position will play a key role in support of the departmental outreach and engagement programs that include, but are not limited to, the Public Education Program, High School Program, and Summer Program as well as supporting departmental marketing and participating in departmental tours.
This part-time position involves planning and scheduling events in consultation with the Department Head, including budgeting, hiring, and training students; developing curriculum and delivering outreach programs; identifying available assets; and writing grant proposals to obtain funding for programs. This position will also prepare and deliver interpretation material for external professional audiences which highlight the programs and research of the Department of Ocean Sciences and liaise with Memorial University\xe2\x80\x99s Marketing and Communications department and the Faculty of Science Communications Coordinator on various projects.
Duties include building and maintaining relationships with external program partners; understanding provincial high school science curricula and identifying areas for new programming to support those curricula; creating and delivering appealing programming for students, families, and visitors to the Ocean Sciences Centre; presenting information in a variety of formats to a variety of emerging audiences; creating and distributing resource materials for educators, events, and programs; developing and implementing a calendar of special events and public programming; coordinating the administration of all programs, including bookings and invoicing; supervising seasonal and part-time project students including secondary, post-secondary, and graduate students; working closely with volunteers that support the delivery of programming and special events; supporting faculty in teaching and learning initiatives; evaluating all programs relative to the objectives and identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement; assisting with special projects including the development of new initiatives; manage the website and social media platforms for the department; and performing other related duties as required. This position may require some flexibility in working hours.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (1-3 years) in public engagement, including website design or website maintenance; completion of coursework toward master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in science or a related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Excellent communication and organizational skills and working knowledge of posting to social media sites are required. Knowledge of science curriculum development and experience with grant writing would be considered assets.
SALARY
$28.36 - $45.53 per hour (Management and Professional) CLOSING DATE March 17, 2023
