The Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH) is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927. The School, which played acritical role in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world. With $64 million in research funding per year, the School contributes to improving population health and health policy and health systems through discoveries and innovation in data science and AI, maternal, child and reproductive health, climate change, implementation and improvement sciences, preventable disease through vaccines and prevention through wellness such as with diabetes, comparative health policy, sustainable and equitable health systems, global and Indigenous health, among many other areas.

Your opportunity:

As the Outreach and Program Coordinator, you will support the DLSPH Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Office (EDIO) in its priorities to better connect with communities outside its walls, and help create more equitable access to health and healthcare leadership for youth from underserved communities. You will lead the evolution of the DLSPH Outreach and Access Program and play a critical role in strengthening relationships with partners and stakeholders to deliver new innovative outreach initiatives.

You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the outreach program including attending and leading all program sessions, developing program plans, securing speakers, liaising with stakeholders, tracking and evaluation, and program expansion.

Your responsibilities will include:


  • Serving as a first point of contact and support for prospective and current program participants, handling program-related inquiries from high school students,parents/guardians, high school teachers, counsellors and community members
  • Supporting the development and implementation of program and related activities; Analyzing and making recommendations for student program enhancements
  • Building and strengthening relationships and stakeholders of strategic importance
  • Designing surveys, interviews, and other research tools for program evaluation
  • Writing routine documents and correspondence, including writing summary reports on programs and services
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and promoting outreach and program activities; Developing marketing and promotional content for recruitment and outreach materials
  • Coordinating the recruitment process and training of studentvolunteers and casual staff
  • Handling sensitive and/or confidential information

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor\'s Degree (Health Sciences or Social Sciences preferred) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three (3 ) years progressive experience in project management and/or project coordination.
  • Minimum three (3) years progressive experience in community program development supporting youth from racialized and underserved communities.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting the development and implementation of program and related activities.
  • Proficiency with program evaluation, including the design of surveys and interviews.
  • Experience creating marketing and promotional materials, developing presentations and drafting reports.
  • Strong critical thinking skills in analyzing and making recommendations for student programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative while working independently and as part of a broader team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Superior organizational, project, and time management skills; High creativity and innovative approach to work.
  • Advanced level proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Ability to use discretion in dealing with sensitive issues and maintaining appropriate levels of confidentiality.
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to build trust, collaborative relationships and mutual respect.
  • Comfortable leading meetings and facilitating discussions with stakeholders, particularly with high school youth.
  • Experience mentoring youth from racialized and underserved neighbourhoods; Demonstrated experience and skill partnering with a broad range of equity deserving groups.
