Position Summary


The Surgical Coordinator plays a vital role in guiding patients through their surgical journey--from scheduling and pre-operative preparation to post-operative follow-up. This role requires excellent organizational skills, strong communication abilities, and a solid understanding of ophthalmic procedures.

Roles and Responsibilities:



Coordinate and schedule ophthalmic surgeries, ensuring efficiency and accuracy. Act as the primary liaison between patients, physicians, and surgical facilities. Provide patients with pre-operative and post-operative instructions, ensuring understanding and compliance. Obtain necessary medical clearances, insurance authorizations, and consents. Maintain accurate and complete surgical records in the electronic medical record (EMR). Track and manage surgical supplies, equipment needs, and vendor coordination when required. Support physicians and staff by streamlining clinic-to-surgery workflows. Ensure compliance with clinic protocols, HIPAA regulations, and industry standards.

Qualifications

:

Previous experience as a Surgical Coordinator in an ophthalmology or medical specialty clinic is prefered. Strong knowledge of ophthalmic terminology, surgical procedures (cataract, glaucoma), and pre-/post-op requirements. Familiarity with EMR systems and surgical scheduling software. Excellent organizational, multitasking, and time-management skills. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide compassionate patient education and support. Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality

Skills:



Excellent patient service skills with an aptitude to understand the patients' conditions; Strong computer skills, with previous EMR experience; Typing speed of 40wpm or better; Ability to quickly grasp and adapt to new programs and equipment; Strong verbal and written communication skills; Self-motivation to deliver high quality results; Present a cheerful, friendly and professional image to patients and fellow employees; Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; Ability to demonstrate consistent initiative and a team attitude; Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.
Wage is commensurate with experience, and designation, with a standard company benefits package. Applicant may be eligible for an annual salary increase and/or annual bonus, based on performance.
