Function

As a Supervising Technician, you will provide specialized technical and production guidance, by supporting employees and taking on the overall coordination of assigned programs, areas or projects in Television, Digital and Radio. You will be required to solve operational difficulties, to assess and optimize the use of resources, and to motivate others.

Key Tasks:

Maintain familiarity with technical or production installations and any associated equipment.

Acting as a consultant, provide assistance and advice on operational requirements in terms of equipment, facilities and personnel

Train new staff and advise management on their progress.

Verify the accuracy of time reports and work performed.

Undertake reviews of the operations, operating procedures, technical standards and maintenance activities. Submit recommendations for improvements or modifications.

Recommend safety procedures. Plan and maintain safety measures and programs for personnel, property and equipment.

Within delegated authority and in consultation with the supervisor:

arrange for the provision of supplies or services with external persons or firms;

review or direct such arrangements;

verify delivery of material or completion of service;

Perform all or part of the function or duties of equivalent or lower classifications.

As assigned or required, may perform any or all of the following tasks:

provide specialized assistance and work in close consultation with engineers and technologists.

provide input to the budget process.

participate in the selection and evaluation of new staff.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Superior knowledge and understanding of radio or television program production and presentation methods. This includes understanding how different areas and crafts interrelate. Knowledge is generally gained through community college graduation in Radio or Television arts courses, or equivalent industry experience.

Four years of related experience

Knowledge of the RentalWorks rental database or any other software used in the tracking of sales and rentals.

Experience supervising warehouse operations and staff and establishing processes and procedures for the smooth operation of an equipment rental facility.

Experience in inside sales at a broadcast or film equipment rental agency.

Client focussed customer service experience

Experience in the setup, maintenance and use of professional video camcorders, DSLRs and related equipment such as lights and audio.

Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues

Experience in the implementation of innovative technology solutions

Excellent collaboration and communication skills.

Superior problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure

Ability to train others and develop training materials

Excellent documentation skills
