Job Description

Vermilion has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Reservoir Engineer based in the Calgary office reporting to the Manager, Saskatchewan Assets. The Senior Reservoir Engineer will be responsible for managing recovery potential, providing technical justification for development activity and delivering on budget targets and long range plan goals as to maximize the value of Vermilion's Saskatchewan assets. This position will also be the lead role for the management and optimization of existing waterflood patterns along with the implementation of new waterflood schemes. The role will require collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team consisting of: production and exploitation engineering, geology, geophysics, finance/accounting, facility, D&C, land and field staff.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participate in Vermilion's Health, Safety and Environmental program
  • Work within multi-discipline team to identify opportunities to increase recovery factors and asset value through infill drilling, waterflood, and optimization
  • Provide technical evaluation assessments on productivity, reserves and risks for new drill prospects
  • Collaborate with Engineers and Geoscience to coordinate well placements as it relates to spacing requirements, surface considerations, drilling limitations and pool management
  • Hold lead role in management of existing waterflood schemes through tracking of injection volumes, pattern allocations, VRRs and overall performance
  • Identify, design and execute strategy to implement new waterflood pilot areas and expand existing schemes
  • Apply new technologies and techniques to manage waterflood conformance, increase efficiency and maximize recovery factors in existing pools
  • Work closely with Production and Exploitation Engineers to set ongoing injection targets and optimize water injection/disposal volumes
  • Identify and project manage opportunities for fluid/reservoir studies, lab work and simulations
  • Manage well testing requirements and collection of fluid, pressure and field data as required
  • Provide engineering support for new play concept and acquisition evaluation including the application of practical reservoir and exploitation concepts in the assessment of cores, logs, PVT, completions and production/reserves
  • Monitor competitor and analog activity outside of existing land base and identify opportunities for new technology applications
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to executive management on technical aspects of development opportunities
  • Collaborate with and present technical data to working interest and unit partners
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned
First Year Deliverables
  • Utilize static geomodel for Ratcliffe pool(s) and collaborate with Asset Team to build dynamic model to match historical data
  • Use reservoir simulation methods on Ratcliffe pool(s) to identify drilling, waterflood and optimization opportunities in order to generate a five year development plan
  • Continually monitor the performance of existing waterfloods and work with Asset Team and Field Operations to optimize results
  • Work within Asset Team to support to development and maturation of high quality drilling, optimization and waterflood projects
Essential Experience & Skills
  • Minimum of 10+ years of relevant oil and gas industry engineering experience is required
  • Waterflood experience/oil experience in conventional reservoirs is required
  • Strong technical reservoir engineering skills are required
  • Proven ability to identify technical opportunities and successfully implement value added projects
  • Experience owning all aspects of the budget and long range plan
  • SE Saskatchewan experience is an asset
  • Previous experience running or managing reservoir simulation studies is an asset
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in well and reservoir analysis and petroleum economics, Microsoft Office applications, Geoscout, ProdView and Mosaic
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, capable of presenting ideas to others in both formal and informal settings
  • Possess the ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
  • Possess the ability to think creatively with 'outside-the-box' thinking and can create ideas and ultimately value that others may have missed
Education

University Degree in Engineering or Petroleum Engineering Diploma

Professional APEGA Member is preferred
