Job Description


POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Supervisor and the direct supervision of the Leadhand, is responsible for the installation of water meters and the removal, repair and testing of water meters.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: * Arranges with consumers the approval for the installation of water meters, making note of any special requirements.

  • Installs water meters, read-outs and related hardware in a neat, approved, efficient and safe manner.
  • Removes and replaces water meters on a scheduled basis for overhaul.
  • Dismantles, cleans, repairs and tests meters for accuracy.
  • Performs those plumbing functions that are encountered in the installation and removal of water meters which do not require a Journeyperson Plumber Certificate.
  • Maintains accurate, legible records of meter installations, removals, repairs and calibrations including field books, meter exchange forms and other related records.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Experience:
  • Must have a sound knowledge of general plumbing requirements and be able to work proficiently on all types of piping.
  • Must have a sound knowledge of meter installation repair and testing procedures.
Skills/Abilities:
  • Must be able to understand Water distribution and Wastewater Collection maps and assembly drawings
  • Must demonstrate the ability to perform all maintenance functions related to the position
  • Must be able to demonstrate competence with a computer as it relates to this position
  • Must be capable of issuing clearly understandable instructions
  • Must be capable of clearly reporting (written and verbal) on water metering conditions and problems
  • Must be tactful and courteous with the public
  • Must be reliable and capable of performing routine work with a minimum of supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class \xe2\x80\x9cG\xe2\x80\x9d Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent
  • Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
  • May be required to provide a successful driver\xe2\x80\x99s abstract (uncertified)
  • Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
  • Must undergo mechanical aptitude testing
  • Within 3 months of hire, must attain all skill sets outlined by The Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities for Water Meter Installer trade code 800A
  • Must be capable of working all shifts as required.
