Senior Test Specialist, Electrical (Permanent)

In this role, you will:

• Carry out testing, acceptance and maintenance activities for various Victoria Class Submarine (VCS) systems and equipment.
• Act as a Test Director and direct multi-disciplinary employees during the testing of submarine systems and equipment.
• Conduct equipment trouble-shooting, fault diagnosis and corrective maintenance.
• Contribute to the determination of solutions to problems and issues of moderate to high complexity and clearly articulate complex technical issues, solutions and risks to all stakeholders (technical and non-technical).
• Work effectively as part of a broader technical team and lead small to medium sized teams to deliver assigned projects or tasks.
• Provide mentorship or guidance for other Test Specialists.
• Record defects using Babcock Canada IT applications.
• Be responsive to Commissioning Managers for dynamic program delivery requirements in a shipyard waterfront environment.
• Identify risks and opportunities during the course of testing and maintenance.
• Other duties as required.

The ideal candidate brings:

• Strong technical skills including post-secondary education or apprenticeship in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
• Eligible for recognition as AScT or EIT designation, as applicable, in British Columbia.
• 8+ years of relevant technical experience.
• Strong communication skills; written, verbal and interpersonal.
• Experience with field functional testing of control components.
• Experience with measurement and analysis activities.
• Strong computer skills including MS Office suite.
• Marine, offshore oil and gas drilling or naval vessel experience, an asset.
• Submarine operational experience, an asset.
• The following experience would be considered an asset:

• Experience with Alternating Current systems and power distribution control systems.
• Proven knowledge of Direct Current control systems / motor control / generator testing.
• Control and monitoring system testing.
• Knowledge of lead acid or lithium ion battery systems.
• Naval mission system equipment experience including sonar, navigation, tactical, communication, weapon discharge and handling systems.
• Fibre optic applications, cable characteristics, connectors, termination, inspection and testing.
• Knowledge of uninterrupted power supplies and switching.
• Awareness of functional and non-functional system performance testing in new construction or retro-commissioning.
• Proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, meaning that you must have received the full series of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Government of Canada with the final dose at least 14 days prior to your start date as well as any COVID boosters recommended by public health authorities
• You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
