In this role, you will:
  • Carry out the role of Test Director. This includes inspection, testing, calibration, and commissioning of systems and equipment IAW authorized documentation, carrying out fault diagnosis and proposing corrective solutions
  • Directly supervise complex testing and commissioning procedures and integrated functional trials for system acceptance (i.e. Weapons Discharge and Handling, Submerged Signal Ejector)
  • Be responsible for the Occupational Health and Safety of those temporarily assigned to be under your supervision
  • Develop and review verification specifications to align with industry standards for complex test and acceptance activities for platform weapons systems
  • Conduct equipment trouble-shooting, fault diagnosis and corrective maintenance
  • Record defects using Babcock Canada IT applications
  • Coordinate and execute safe release of work processes
  • Be responsive to the Principal Test Specialist for dynamic program delivery requirements in a shipyard waterfront environment
  • Identify risks and opportunities during the course of testing and maintenance
  • Co-ordinate, manage and oversee testing by third party/OEM FSRs and contractors
The ideal candidate brings:
  • 8+ years of relevant technical experience
  • A post-secondary education in a technical / engineering discipline.
  • Eligible for recognition as a professional designation/qualification: AScT or PEng as applicable in British Columbia.
  • Strong communication skills; written, verbal and interpersonal in order to maintain close liaisons with Customer, Engineering, Project Management and Production staff.
  • Strong level knowledge of the following marine systems as well as strong working knowledge in a variety of other related technologies:
  • Submarine-weapons storage, handling and launch systems
  • Field functional testing of mechanical systems
  • Hydraulic, high-pressure air and auxiliary systems including their components, control and monitoring systems
  • Piping systems, their test procedures and engineering standards
  • Metallurgy and welding practices; and
  • Naval mission systems
  • Safety requirements for Group Lockout as described by WorkSafeBC or equivalent Canadian Workers Compensation Legislation
  • Marine, offshore oil and gas drilling or naval vessel experience would be considered a strong asset.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office suite desirable
  • You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
