Senior Test Specialist, Combat Systems (Permanent)

In this role, you will:

• Carry out the role of Test Director. This includes inspection, testing, calibration, and commissioning of systems and equipment IAW authorized documentation, carrying out fault diagnosis and proposing corrective solutions
• Directly supervise complex testing and commissioning procedures and integrated functional trials for system acceptance (i.e. Combat and Communication System Integration)
• Be responsible for the Occupational Health and Safety of those temporarily assigned to be under your supervision
• Develop and review verification specifications to align with industry standards for complex test and acceptance activities for electrical systems
• Conduct equipment trouble-shooting, fault diagnosis and corrective maintenance
• Record defects using Babcock Canada IT applications
• Coordinate and execute safe release of work processes
• Be responsive to Commissioning Managers for dynamic program delivery requirements in a shipyard waterfront environment
• Identify risks and opportunities during the course of testing and maintenance
• Co-ordinate, manage and oversee testing by third party/OEM FSRs and contractors

The ideal candidate brings:

• Strong technical skills including post-secondary education or apprenticeship in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience
• Eligible for recognition as AScT or PEng designation, as applicable, in British Columbia
• 8+ years of relevant technical experience
• Strong communication skills; written, verbal and interpersonal in order to maintain close liaisons with Customer, Project Management and Production staff
• Strong level of knowledge of one of the following marine systems as well as a working knowledge in a variety of other related technologies:

• Field functional testing of electronic components desirable
• A proven knowledge of naval mission systems a distinct asset
• Alternating Current systems and power distribution control systems an asset
• Control and monitoring system testing experience desirable
• Knowledge of communications, radar, sonar and navigation systems desirable
• Fibre optic applications, cable characteristics, connectors, termination, inspection and testing, an asset
• Uninterrupted power supplies and switching, an asset
• Safety requirements for Lockout/Tagout and Confined Space Access as described by WorkSafe BC or equivalent Canadian Workers Compensation Legislation.
• Marine, offshore oil and gas drilling or naval vessel experience, an asset
• New construction commissioning or retro-commissioning, an asset
• Strong computer skills including MS Office suite desirable
• Submarine operational experience, an asset
• You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
