Job Summary

The Senior Manager, Engineering is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of tracks, roadbed, and right of way in accordance with sound engineering practices and approved railway standards, specifications, procedures and budget, and within the CN operating plan.

Main Responsibilities

Leadership

\xc2\xb7 Provide leadership to Track Supervisors, Assistant Track Supervisors and hourly Maintenance of Way (MOW) employees

\xc2\xb7 Provide clear direction on employee performance and department goals

\xc2\xb7 Coach and counsel subordinates who are not performing at established goals and standards

\xc2\xb7 Respond to grievances and resolve them

Safety Compliance

\xc2\xb7 Build safety compliance and improve safety results through regular efficiency walkabouts

\xc2\xb7 Provide positive and constructive feedback and coaching

Capital Program

\xc2\xb7 Prepare capital program requirements

\xc2\xb7 Analyze and interpret track geometry and rail flaw reports to identify conditions requiring actions to meet engineering track standards

Operations

\xc2\xb7 Manage activities related to derailments and disruptions in service while collaborating with others to determine cause and future prevention

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences. The role requires frequent travel (50%) within the region.

Requirements

Experience

Railroad

\xc2\xb7 Minimum 10 years of railroad experience

o Minimum 6 years of track experience

o Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience

Education/Certification/Designation

\xc2\xb7 High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

\xc2\xb7 General Code of Operation Rules (GCOR) Certification

Technical Skills/Knowledge

\xc2\xb7 Comprehensive knowledge of track structure, construction and maintenance, identifying track defects

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of engineering track standards and operation measures

\xc2\xb7 Understanding of applicable collective agreements

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of Microsoft suite (Excel, Word)

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of Track Inspection System (TIS)

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of Systems, Applications and Products (SAP)

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of Train Management Dispatch System (TMDS)
