Accountabilities: Reporting to the Manager, M&T Financial Reporting, the Senior Corporate Accountant is responsible for the following key responsibilities:

  • Accounting and financial reporting, which includes, but is not limited to:
  • Preparing monthly journal entries and general ledger monitoring, including full working paper/audit file preparation, detailed account reconciliations and analysis;
  • Preparing financial statements and analyzing the financial results;
  • Determining appropriate accounting treatments; and
  • Assisting internal and external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits;
  • Settlement activities, including reconciliation of invoice information with counterparties, invoice payment, monitoring bank account activity, and processing invoice and settlement activity;
  • Preparing regulatory reports and tax filings;
  • Collaborating with other Emera departments to provide financial information;
  • Preparing other routine and ad hoc analysis and reports as required.

Skills, Competencies and Experience: As the ideal candidate you recognize yourself in the most of the following competencies, and possess or are working towards the desired skills and experience listed below:
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Commerce with a minimum 5 years related work experience and have completed an accounting designation (CPA, or its predecessor CA, CMA or CGA);
  • Experience with financial reporting systems and Excel;
  • Knowledge of the gas and power markets would be considered an asset but not required;
  • Detailed oriented and posses strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven, team-focused environment, with the ability to handle multiple deliverables and work independently under tight deadlines;
  • Have a solid business acumen, customer focused and is innovative, with the ability to identify and implement improved processes;
  • Comfortable working with confidential information.
