DESCRIPTION

Michels Canada is looking for a Senior Accountant to join our growing company. The successful candidate will be performing a wide range of tasks and support business priorities in a fast-paced environment. This position will be based in Nisku, Alberta.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
• Lead by example to promote Michels Canada's culture and core values.
• Provide support and guidance to local units and other departments to resolve accounting related issues
• Oversee day to day full cycle accounting functions, including monthly closing, intercompany accounts balance, and monthly reconciliation
• Generate regular reports including weekly cash flow updates for upper management
• Provide coaching and mentorship to junior level staff
• Manage and maintain Cash Flow and Treasury funds
• Perform monthly account analyses, including supplementary reporting and ad-hoc analysis as required
• Assist external auditors to compete year-end processes
• Promote a continuous improvement culture to ensure efficient processes, documentation of accounting procedures and systems development

REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 5 years' experience in an Accounting role, ideally in the construction industry
• Demonstrated understanding of full-cycle accounting

DESIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with ViewPoint is an asset

EDUCATION

• Bachelor's Degree in accounting
• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Designation, or working towards one

LANGUAGES

• Must be able to communicate verbally and through written language (by hand and digitally) in English.
