Job Description

The Senior Accountant is responsible for financial accounting activities for the Canadian Generation group including, but not limited to general accounting, monthly closing, compilation and delivery of financial statements, and reporting functions for both internal and external parties in accordance with deadlines. In this role the Senior Accountant will act as the subject matter expert for all accounting matters.

This role will be supporting our wind farm project and corporate accounting in Markham, Canada and will report to the Accounting Manager, GBS Canada. This position has a range between $119,076.00 CAD and $187,800.00 CAD ($87,500.00 to $138,000.00 USD) and the offered salary will be dependent on skills and experience.

What you'll do:

  • Perform monthly and annual closing processes for assigned entities, including preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and management reporting
  • Perform accounting and reporting tasks and meet reporting requirements for Renewables group and for partnership reporting, renewables activities include communicating with project managers and BD accounting in transitioning projects from developmental phase to operational phase as well as setting up newly created entities and general legers.
  • Develop processes, drive continuous improvement, coordinate requirements upstream and downstream in the organization
  • Interface with external auditors and preparation of financial schedules and required requests
  • Assist Performance Control Analyst in the preparation of annual budget and annual long-term forecast
  • Perform ad-hoc projects as needed, including those which may involve complex or advanced accounting concepts
  • Comply with all ENGIE NA policies and procedures
  • Carries out other duties as assigned
  • Acts as a team member with all employees of ENGIE staff
Qualifications

What you bring:
  • Strong accounting and financial reporting skills
  • A minimum of five (5) years relevant experience required, the is an associate level position
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
  • CPA preferred
  • International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) knowledge a plus
  • Knowledge of tax equity structures a plus
  • Expertise in use of Microsoft Excel
  • Tools used for the job may include Microsoft Office Tool Suite, Cartesis, SAP
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal customers and external auditors
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Deadline driven and ability to plan ahead to ensure smooth close processes

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not exposed to weather conditions.
  • Ability to use personal computer, calculator, move about inside the office and could involve some lifting.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
