Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting (Full-time, 12 Month Contract) - Coquitlam, BC (Hybrid)

The Opportunity

  • Preparing quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and note disclosures in accordance with ASPE for a large private corporation in Canada
  • Maintaining consolidation working papers for a group of 20+ subsidiaries in Canada and the United States with full foreign currency translation to the parent company's financial reporting currency in Canadian dollars ($CAD)
  • Reviewing accounting entries for M&A transactions to confirm the correct accounting treatment (i.e., consolidation, equity or cost method under ASPE) and preparing technical accounting memos to support the purchase price allocation (PPA)
  • Determining intercompany eliminations relating to investments and cross border transactions
  • Reviewing and assisting with the preparation of monthly bank borrowing base reports, internal monthly reporting, quarterly bank reporting and annual external audit
  • Preparing year end audit working papers and serving as a liaison to external auditors
  • Monitoring internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with the Company's policies and procedures
  • Staying abreast of new standards impacting our industries, research disclosure requirements and keep abreast of new pronouncements impacting disclosures
  • Performing GAAP/ASPE research and analysis, including research of complex accounting issues
  • Preparing annual consolidated budget and capital budget
  • Collaborating with the junior accountants to support month-end closing duties
  • Supporting ad hoc projects and other duties as assigned
The Ideal Candidate
  • An accounting designation (Canadian CPA)
  • 4 to 5 years of related work experience, including experience in preparing consolidated financial statements for large private companies
  • Proven experience working closely with multiple subsidiaries in a medium to large organization
  • Solid analytical skills and strong technical accounting knowledge in ASPE, including business combinations and foreign currency translation
  • A team player with the ability to take initiatives and prioritize responsibilities to meet established deadlines
  • Strong computer skills with advanced knowledge of MS Excel (pivot tables, V lookup, etc.)
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail required
  • Experience with accounting software, such as Caseware and Caseview, would be considered an asset
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
