We are searching for a Senior Accountant to join our Finance team based in Halifax, NS.

About the Opportunity

By providing financial statement review and analysis and financial support to the Retirement Living, Enhanced Care and Corporate divisions, you will:
  • Assist with the on time and on quality preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual Shannex Inc. financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements and statements of cash flow
  • Reconcile corporate general ledger accounts such as accrued receivables, liabilities, capital assets and deferred finance fees. Investigate reconciling items and ensure appropriate accounting for transactions in compliance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of the annual audited financial statements for the division.
  • Coordinate with auditors to address their queries in at timely basis.
  • Assist Finance Planning team in budgeting, forecasting, and investigating variances with a focus on improving process efficiency and performance.
  • Prepare financial reports, charts, tables, power point presentations and other exhibits as requested; Respond to ad-hoc projects related to business growth etc.
  • Perform audit check of data interface between Yardi ERP system and Great Plains
  • Provide accounting and back up support for accounting team, preparation of monthly financial reports, and review of reconciliations.
  • Supports a month end reporting by delivering complete accounting for all balance sheet accounts elated funds applied within the statement of earnings.
About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting or Finance and a CPA designation
  • Minimum 2 - 3 years experience in a similar role
  • Strong computer literacy including advanced working skills in Microsoft Office
  • Thorough technical knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Experience with Great Plains and Yardi software would be considered an asset
  • Experience in the health care or health-related industry would be considered an asset
