We currently have an exciting new position for a Senior Accountant that will be responsible for maintaining the accounting records as well as the financial reporting to the various internal and external stakeholders for Sleep Country’s newly acquired subsidiary, Hush Blankets Inc. (“Hush”). This role will be a key contributor that assists in the development of the Accounting function for the Company’s fast growing ecommerce retailer, Hush, with operations both in Canada and United States as well as ensuring compliance with the Company’s group accounting policies, procedures and regulations.   • Ensure that group accounting policies, controls and processes are implemented and maintained
  • Maintain the general ledger (GL) and A/R, A/P, inventory, fixed assets and other sub-ledgers of Hush to ensure it is complete and accurate
  • Prepare/review month-end/quarter-end accruals and prepare manual journal entries with supporting documentation for review by management
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly account reconciliations for management review
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly balance sheet and income statement variance analysis for management review
  • Analyze the treatment of new, routine transactions and complex events/transactions, including the drafting of accounting memos as required
  • Implement and maintain processes and controls within Hush that impact accounting/financial reporting
  • Review current processes, identify gaps, make recommendations and implement once approved by management
  • Support external auditors’ quarterly reviews, annual audit as well as Internal Audit and External Reporting teams and other stakeholders
  • Assist in the assessment of the impact of new accounting standards on financial reporting processes and internal controls as well as changes to business metrics
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial analysis
  • Assist in supporting activities such as budgeting, forecasting and internal reporting process
  • Prepare the quarterly tax provision package for Hush for financial reporting purposes
  • Prepare all required sales tax returns for Hush for review and filing
  • Supports the completion of all required tax filings for Hush
  • Responsible for tax related and other regulatory requirements of Hush
  • Assist in the implementation of the system conversion from Xero to Oracle Finance Cloud, new accounting policies and provide training and guidance as required
  • Assist in various projects and ad-hoc responsibilities as required


Qualifications
  • Post-Secondary Education in Business with a specialization in Accounting is required.
  • Qualified Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) is required
  • Advanced knowledge in IFRS
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar accounting or audit role
  • Public accounting experience an asset
  • Income taxes experience an asset
  • Experience working with Xero and/or Oracle Finance Cloud is an asset
  • Advanced Excel skills and analytical skills required
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, organization, time management skills with the ability work well under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Attention to detail, strong problem-solving and conceptual thinking skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to build relationships with external stakeholders as well as various areas across the business
  • This role is hybrid (2 days in office)
