Job Description



Under the direction and guidance of the Director of Environment, Regulatory, & IMS for the Inuvialuit Energy Security Project (IESP), the Safety Lead will be a full-time position responsible for the implementation and continual improvement of the IESP Health and Safety program, plans, and procedures. The IESP Safety Lead works with employees, contractors, management, and interested stakeholders to ensure health and safety regulations, plans, and policies are being adhered to onsite and throughout the organization. The IESP Safety Lead will work closely with the IESP Field Team, including the Construction Supervisor and the Environmental Lead. It is anticipated that construction of the IESP will begin in the Fall of 2023 and will be conducted in several phases over 2 years. Once construction is complete, the IESP will enter the operational phase which is anticipated to last several generations. For out-of-region applicants, camp accommodations will be provided.
The ideal candidate will have the following combination of education, experience, and knowledge:

  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or working towards a CRSP.
  • Experience with Emergency Services and/or Incident Command System (ICS).
  • 5+ years of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) experience.
  • Experience with on-the-job training and mentoring.
  • Training on required IESP safety systems and emergency response plans will be provided. Demonstrated experience with safety systems and/or emergency management, including ICS is desired.
  • Experience with supervising and managing Health and Safety, including Incident Assessment and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Familiar with NWT Safety Act and Regulations and the WSCC is an asset.
  • Experience working within Indigenous communities and organizations.
  • Previous work experience in the Beaufort-Mackenzie Delta or remote Arctic conditions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, networking skills, and organizational skills.
  • Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Reliable, willing, and able to work with minimum supervision.
