Job Description



Under the direction and guidance of the Director, Environment, Regulatory, & IMS for the Inuvialuit Energy Security Project, the Environmental Lead will be a full-time position responsible for the implementation and continual improvement of the IESP Environmental Management Plans. The Environmental Lead works with employees, contractors, management, and interested stakeholders to ensure IESP is compliant with regulations, and approval conditions, and operates as a good steward of the environment. The position will be involved in assessment, sampling, and monitoring, emergency preparedness and response using Incident Command System, and developing environmental best practices in collaboration with local community leaders and regulators. It is anticipated that construction of the IESP will begin in Fall of 2023 and will be conducted in several phases over 2 years. Once construction is complete, the IESP will enter the operational phase which is anticipated to last more than 50 years. For out-of-region applicants, accommodations, and a rotational work schedule will be provided. The ideal candidate will have the following combination of education, experience, and knowledge:

  • Engineering or Environmental related certificate/diploma or equivalent.
  • Environmental work experience and/or experience on the land.
  • Experience communicating scientific or engineering information.
  • Can interpret and explain legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Have experience developing and working with others to implement training programs and workshops.
  • Possess experience developing and implementing environmental sampling and monitoring procedures.
  • Have experience preparing reports, providing recommendations, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Training on required IESP safety systems and emergency response plans will be provided. Experience with Emergency Management, including ICS, is an asset.
  • Experience working within Indigenous communities and organizations.
  • Previous experience in the Beaufort-Mackenzie Delta or remote Arctic conditions is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, networking skills, and organizational skills.
  • Computer, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Excel proficiency.
  • Reliable, willing, and able to work with minimum supervision.
