We are currently accepting resumes for a Safety Lead position at the Fort Saskatchewan Dow Shutdown. This role will be a temporary position based in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. Previous Shutdown experience is considered an asset. NO LOA or travel is available for this position.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Understand and adhere to Tartan\xe2\x80\x99s safety management system, policies, procedures and values;
  • Facilitate the implementation and administration of HS&E policies, processes and systems and monitor compliance with all relevant legislation, rules and regulations;
  • Promote, coach and mentor employees in the use of Tartan\xe2\x80\x99s health, safety and environment management system;
  • Facilitate incident investigations, analysis and preparation of accident reports and summaries;
  • Acts as a coach & mentor to less experienced coworkers and demonstrates a high standard of safety conduct, behavior, and attitude towards a safe work place culture
  • Communicates established policies, practices and procedures to workers and remain informed of corporate and client initiatives.
  • Conducts Orientation for Employees & Subcontractors working at customer sites
  • Maintains safe work/carding system to required safety standards
  • Facilitates and supports safety meetings as required
  • Monitors the permitting process to ensure compliance and consistency
  • Ensures corrective actions are followed up and completed where deficiencies are identified;
  • Lead by demonstrating the required behaviors, attitudes and mindset to further develop an already strong corporate safety culture;
  • Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations, and make recommendations for their implementation;
  • Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations;
  • Monitors adherence to company safety program by conducting documented daily walk through inspections, reviewing V.O.I.C.E cards, incident reports, safety meeting discussions;
  • Develop and review safe work plans and permits including fall protection plans, critical lifts, etc.;
  • Coordinate site specific training for supervisors and field employees
  • Attends and supports morning tailgate meetings;
  • Collection of safety statistics to identify trends;
  • Perform additional assignments per site superintendent\xe2\x80\x99s and/or Safety Lead\xe2\x80\x99s direction.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and show initiative;
  • Drive to succeed \xe2\x80\x93 experience setting aggressive targets, proven record of meeting and exceeding goals;
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills;
  • The ability to concentrate on detailed work;
  • Experience in a heavy oil operating environment;
  • Energetic and enjoys a fast pace, dynamic, challenging and team oriented environment;
  • The physical ability to work night or day shifts, wear respiratory equipment, climb ladders and perform lifting to 50 lbs. Manual dexterity, good vision (glasses are acceptable), eye-hand coordination;
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a full-time Supervisory Health & Safety role in a Heavy Industrial plant or construction environment;
  • Minimum 1 year OH&S Certificate. Preference given to OHS diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Accreditation as an OH&S Professional \xe2\x80\x93 CRSP, CSP or NEBOSH preferred. NCSO plus other post-secondary education will be considered.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and Internet;
  • Standard First Aid Certification;
  • Clearance of a Pre-access Drug & Alcohol test;
  • Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license;
  • Clean drivers abstract;
  • Previous experience in maintenance, construction, heavy oil and/or gas industry would be an asset;
