Research Technician

The Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO), Canada's Centre for Pandemic Research, is a world leader in infectious disease research and vaccine development for humans and animals. Located at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, VIDO is home to one of the largest and most advanced containment level 3 facilities in the world. To strengthen the preparedness for emerging infectious diseases we are currently expanding our infrastructure to

include containment level 4 capacity, a GMP vaccine manufacturing facility, and a new animal housing facility. Our vision includes having the capacity to study any emerging disease in any animal model embracing a One Health approach to prevent emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in humans and animals.

We are seeking a Research Technician to join our team. Reporting to Dr. Aneesh Thakur the Research Technician is responsible for performing laboratory experimental activities as well as accurately recording procedures used and data generated.

Qualifications

An undergraduate degree in biomedical, pharmacy or other relevant sciences and/or a BioScience Technology Diploma is required.

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge in at least one of the following areas:

  • Experience in formulation (e.g., nanoparticles, drug delivery systems) and analytics (e.g., HPLC, Mass
  • spectrometry).
  • Molecular biology (e.g., PCR, gene expression, SDS-PAGE, Western Blotting), and tissue culture techniques
  • (e.g., mammalian cells handling, stock preparation and maintenance of Tissue Culture cells).
  • Assays to access cell-mediated immunity through flow cytometry: ex vivo stimulation of PBMC/lymphocytes
  • and intracellular cytokine staining for functional profiling.
  • The candidate should be comfortable working with animals and willing to undertake necessary training to work in a containment level 2 environment.
