Job Description




This is a temporary part-time assignment for approximately 8 months to assist with COVID relief Sinai Health is a leading academic health science centre with a provincial, national and international reputation for discovering and delivering life-changing care. To support us on our journey, Sinai Health is looking for a Receptionist to support our Microbiology department at our Mount Sinai Campus.

  • Responds to telephone calls from health care providers (internal and external clients) for COVID and laboratory inquiries (eg. sample receipt, results, turnaround time, expedited testing requests)
  • Obtains, verifies and corrects information transcribed into the Laboratory Information System from requisitions
  • Telephones clients to obtain information missing from the test requisition form e.g., type of test required
  • Communicates with laboratory technologists for expedited testing information
  • Able to search patient and test result information within the Laboratory Information System
  • Faxes reports to clients and public health units
  • Scans/files electronic COVID requisitions
  • Maintains the security and confidentiality of patient information
  • Assists with training of new staff
  • Performs functions as assigned by management to cover for vacation, sick leave and to adjust staffing workload requirements
  • Provides feedback to management involving opportunities for improvement in COVID customer service
  • Files as needed
  • Other duties that may be assigned

Job Requirements
  • Successful completion of a high school diploma
  • 1 - 2 years recent receptionist experience in a healthcare environment
  • Proficiency in written and oral English
  • Demonstrated minimum 40 wpm keyboarding skills
  • Demonstrated Windows and mouse skills
  • Experience in reception, registration or secretarial roles in doctors’ offices or hospitals
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Proven organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise tact and discretion, good judgement and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Demonstrated satisfactory performance and attendance record
