In this role, you will:
  • Set requirements for testing and verification activities for Victoria Class Submarine mechanical systems and equipment
  • Oversee the approval of documentation to control testing of submarine systems and equipment to verify design performance has been restored following equipment and system maintenance.
  • Develop and review verification specifications to align with industry standards for complex test and acceptance activities for mechanical systems
  • Conduct equipment trouble-shooting, fault diagnosis and corrective maintenance as needed.
  • Verify testing defects are resolved using Babcock Canada IT applications and that full designed performance is restored to submarine systems
  • Coordinate and lead meetings of the mechanical Test Group to ensure test documentation is available to support the testing schedule and verification of results to support the delivery schedule of the submarine projects.
  • Be responsive to the Joint Test Group Chairman for dynamic program delivery requirements in a shipyard waterfront environment
  • Identify risks and opportunities during the course of testing and maintenance
The ideal candidate brings:
  • 10 years of experience testing or commissioning
  • A post-secondary education in a relevant field, preference for engineering discipline
  • Processes a current designation (or immediately eligible) as an AScT or EIT
  • Strong communication skills; written, verbal and interpersonal in order to maintain close liaisons with Customer, Engineering, Project Management and Production staff
  • Expert level knowledge of one of the following marine systems as well as strong working knowledge in a variety of other related technologies:
  • Field functional testing of mechanical systems;
  • Hydraulic, high pressure air and auxiliary systems including their components, control and monitoring systems;
  • Propulsion diesel engines and ancillary systems including fuel, cooling, lubricating oil, induction and exhaust;
  • Marine propulsion systems including knowledge of shaft lines, propellers, steering systems and their control systems
  • Piping systems, their test procedures and engineering standards;
  • Basic knowledge of metallurgy, welding practices and
  • Detailed knowledge of safety requirements for Group Lockout as described by WorkSafe BC or equivalent Canadian Workers Compensation Legislation
  • Marine, offshore oil and gas drilling or naval vessel experience would be considered a strong asset
  • Proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, meaning that you must have received the full series of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Government of Canada with the final dose at least 14 days prior to your start date
  • You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
