This Part-Time Academic will be fully responsible for the teaching and grading of one section of THEA/PERF 2024.03 Elementary Dance Skills & Techniques. This class is taught in person, every morning Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu from 8:35 -11:25 AM (Studley Campus - Dal Arts Centre RM#327), from June 2 - 23, 2025.
This course is a practical exploration into the dance techniques, incorporating the use of space, rhythm, and correct body alignment, as well as flexibility and strength. Emphasis is on the development of personal expression through the medium of dance. Students are expected to develop an awareness of dance terminology and an appreciation of movement as a practice.
The instructor is required to provide a Method of Assessment. This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Bachelor of Arts or equivalent degree, including the following qualifications, are required for this position:specialization in jazz and contemporary dance techniques and stage dance movement, covering technical basics from such techniques such as Mattox/Simonsen (jazz), Graham/Limon (contemporary) and musical theatre styles.
ability to instruct students with diverse dance-training backgrounds, and broad levels of musicality, dexterity, and coordination.
teaching experience at the post-secondary level;
evidence of strong teaching effectiveness.
