Description of Role

As the MSL Manager the candidate will collaborate with leadership to develop the local strategic plan to meet the Corporate and Medical strategies and will lead the daily activities of a highly motivated MSL team focusing on personal and team development.

Core Responsibilities

Demonstrates on-going scientific and business expertise relevant to the AZ portfolio.

Supports the Medical and Cross Functional Plans:

Develops and leads field-based MSL teams in support of the Medical and Cross Functional Plan while creating a culture of innovation and collaboration.

Aligns MSL plan with Brand Medical Strategy.

Implements Medical strategy and objectives across the portfolio or therapeutic area to implement at a regional level across prioritized customer segments in support of relevant outcomes.

Contributes as a member on internal project teams representing Medical and customer perspectives.

Supports customer insight collection and communicates concrete items to Medical Oncology Leadership and other internal partners, as appropriate.

Ensures alignment of MSL activities with other cross functional roles through co-ordination without direction

Serves as a role model:

Cultivates personal accountability and ownership of individual and team success.

Demonstrates on-going scientific and business expertise relevant to the AZ portfolio.

Follows all guidelines and policies.

Communicates a clear differentiation between the MSL and other medical/commercial roles

Runs training, professional development and performance of team members:

Responsible for recruiting and on-boarding, performance management and career development.

Facilitates scientific and skill training, as well as mentoring and coaching to support professional development.

Supports the development of MSL capabilities:

Scientific expertise and capabilities for scientific exchange.

Customer insight collection and dissemination.

Strategic relationships with medical and scientific authorities.

Maintains qualitative and quantitative metrics that include standard AZ MSL core requirements, including required certification(s).

Collaborate closely with other MSL managers to create consistency with metrics and drive MSL team performance

Is responsible for compliance with all local regulatory requirements and AZ Local and Global Policies and Guidelines.

Leads and supervises team financial resources

Qualifications

The candidate best suited for this role is one with previous experience as a healthcare professional with an advance degree (PharmD, MD) or one with scientific expertise including PhD or MSc

At least 5 years of MSL experience in the pharmaceutical industry

Previous experience leading a team and developing team performance is required

Effective and demonstrated communication (both verbal and written) and presentation skills

Excellent interpersonal, leadership and teamwork skills

Travel required (Local, Regional and National)

Experience in the therapeutic area of Oncology is preferred

Suggested Background

Advanced degree university degree in science or clinical qualification, with relevant scientific experience.

At least five (5) years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, preferably in Medical Affairs or Clinical Development, preferably as an MSL.

Experience in product launch preparation and execution

Experience developing and/or driving product strategy

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills including an ability to effectively (observe, assess and) mentor others on communicating complex technical, scientific or medical information to broad audience types\xe2\x80\x9d.

Thorough knowledge of the local regulatory requirements

Strong leadership capabilities

Excellent interpersonal skills

Ability to travel (percentage varies with geography)

Previous management experience, preferably of a field based team, is considered an asset.

Preferred Background

Medical Degree, Pharm D, Doctorate Degree or MSc in clinical or scientific field
