Specific Description About the Department/Faculty (Optional)

The Student Wellness and Equitable Learning (SWEL) department leverages a collaborative, socio-ecological model for student development and care. The cross-functional team includes Student Connection and Community Care (Office of Student Community Standards, Student Support and Intervention Coordinators, and the Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Coordinator), Residence Life and Education, Accessible Learning Services, Testing Services, Counselling, Community Wellness Education and Programs, and the Health Centre. The SWEL team offer pan-College services across all Humber College/University of Guelph-Humber campuses.

Salary: Admin 06 (Min) $102,650 (Mid ) $114,055 (Max) $136,867

What you will do:

Reporting to the Director of Student Wellbeing, the Manager of Clinical Services (Health Centre) is an integral part of the SWAC management team and oversees the day-to-day clinical operations of the Student Health Clinic. The manager is responsible for leadership and management of the clinical operation of the service which includes primary care and psychiatric services, and manages the clinic budget of approximately $700,000

The manager is responsible for the human resource management of the clinic staff which includes a complement of full time, part time, and contract nurses as well as Clinical Administrators. This requires familiarity with professional licensing bodies, collective agreements and provincial and federal health legislation. While contract physicians will report to the Director, the Manager is responsible for scheduling contract physicians (currently 6) and ensuring there is appropriate medical coverage for the service.

The Manager of Clinical Services ensures the provision of high-quality client care; is a resource for the campus surrounding health related issues and concerns; acts as a liaison with on and off campus partners; and provides administrative leadership in the coordination of the service including the development of policies, procedures, and medical directives and provides direct nursing care to clients of the centre within the scope of practice of the Registered Nurse.

Qualifications

What you bring to the role:

Education

You are a Registered Nurse licensed to practice in ON in good standing with the CNO. You hold a Masters degree in academic discipline that is transferable to the role (Nursing, Leadership, Health Care Administration, Public Health, Health Promotion).

Experience and skills

  • 5-7 years relevant clinical experience in a hospital, student or community health care setting, driving clinical excellence and delivering high standards of patient care and clinical service
  • Direct experience supervising regulated health professionals in unionized environment toward positive outcomes
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the role health plays in a post-secondary environment; Demonstrates awareness of current student health issues and compliance mandates
  • Exhibits a progressive attitude to student health and well-being
  • Well-developed clinical and diagnostic skills; Able to interpret medical directions
  • Excellent knowledge of legislation and regulations associated with Nursing (Colleges of Nurses of Ontario) to ensure compliance
  • Solid experience and knowledge of nursing protocols and proactive treatment methodologies
  • Ability to analyze and respond to complex student issues and health diagnoses, using a supportive and holistic approach
  • Passionate about preventative health and wellness - specifically program design and implementation of health services
  • Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data and metrics for decision making purposes (evidence focussed)
  • Demonstrates awareness of diversity issues
  • Ability to work at both strategic (planning) and operational (day to day) levels
  • Ability to effectively manage, lead and guide team in a positive way
  • Fosters collaborative internal and external partnerships
  • Financial acumen and budgetary skills
  • Change leadership; Ability to develop and implement progressive, improvement initiatives
  • Advanced knowledge of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and Personal Health Information Protection Act
  • Experienced as a practitioner, clinician, educator and/or manager in a post-secondary setting (preferred)
  • Experience with young adults (preferred)
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills to build relationships and partnerships with diverse groups
