As part of Humber's commitment to advancing the inclusion of Indigenous students, professors, and staff, and pursuant to section 14 of the Ontario Human Rights Code, the invites candidates from Indigenous communities, including those who identify as First Nations, Metis, and Inuk/Inuit, or from other Indigenous groups on Turtle Island including Alaskan Native, Native American and Native Hawaiian people, to apply for the following three positions:

Professor, Indigenous Studies and General Education

The successful candidate will be able to teach Indigenous studies courses focused on the Canadian context. Possible areas of teaching and curriculum development include Indigenous histories, Indigenous feminism, and Indigenous creative arts and media. A Bachelor's degree in Indigenous Studies or a related field is required, as is traditional and ancestral knowledge. In addition, the successful candidate will have experience effectively weaving Indigenous ways of being, knowing and doing in educational spaces, as well as demonstrated capacity to build and/or support Indigenous curriculum development related to at the college.

Professor, Writing and Communications

The successful candidate will teach and develop curriculum for a variety of core across multiple programs and credential levels at the college. In addition, the candidate may be asked to teach in and develop curriculum for the program. A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Rhetoric and Composition, Professional Communication, Technical Communication, Applied Linguistics, Creative Writing, or English is required. In addition, the successful candidate will have a Master's degree in a relevant field and/or relevant knowledge learned through Indigenous communities, Indigenous knowledge holders, and/or lived experiences. Candidates with educational backgrounds in other fields are invited to demonstrate how their education can be adapted to teaching writing and communications.

Professor, Research Methods

The successful candidate will teach and develop curriculum in the program. A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as business, marketing, economics, social sciences, or a related field is required. In addition, the successful candidate will have a Master's degree in a relevant field and/or relevant knowledge learned through Indigenous communities, Indigenous knowledge holders, and/or lived experiences. Broad research background or expertise is required, as is an ability to teach a number of different courses offered by the program, encompassing research ethics, research communications, project management, survey design, market research techniques, and qualitative or quantitative research methods. Preference will be given to candidates who have industry experience and engagement, and who have research or teaching experience within Indigenous communities.

For each position, in addition to teaching and assessing student progress and achievement, the candidate will develop culturally competent and relevant curriculum, design or revise specific courses, work collaboratively with colleagues, and participate in committees, applied research projects, and other initiatives. Teaching could be assigned at any Humber campus and in the online environment.

In addition to the qualifications described above for each of the professor positions, the successful candidates will demonstrate the following:

  • previous teaching experience, which can include the role of professor, teacher, teaching assistant, workshop facilitator, or other knowledge sharing and mentorship roles
  • engaging and effective teaching skills to help students achieve learning outcomes in both in-class and online adult learning environments
  • ability to coach, support, and manage the learning environment for a diverse group of students using culturally responsive, equity-informed pedagogies
  • cultural competency to develop and deliver culturally responsive curriculum
  • ability to foster innovation and positive change in all aspects of the professor role
  • ability to collaborate and contribute to a positive, inclusive team culture
In addition, the successful candidate will have experience living and/or working with Indigenous communities and be well-versed in protocols necessary for relationship-building with Indigenous peoples.

Location/Campus

The successful candidate must be able to work at North Campus, Lakeshore Campus or the International Graduate School Campus (IGS).

Salary, Benefits, and Pension

The salary range for full-time professors is $67,893 to $117,697 per annum. Starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience as detailed in the collective agreement for academic employees. The starting salary determination includes recognition of Indigenous knowledge for Indigenous professors whose teaching and/or other responsibilities advance the inclusion of Indigenous ways of being, knowing, and doing. The college also offers a and will engage in discussions around a relocation package for successful candidates who may need to relocate to the Greater Toronto Area for these roles.
