Position Summary
As part of our commitment to actualizing the imperative of Truth and Reconciliation across our academic programs and amplifying the contributions and voices of Indigenous scholars, community members and industry experts, the School of Advancement is seeking to hire a Full-Time Professor in the area of Specialized Academic Certificates- Indigenous Knowleges, Inclusive Leadership and Entrepreneurism. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses within the Specialized Academic Certificates (Inclusive Leadership, Entrepreneurism, and Indigenous Knowledges). The faculty member will participate in program and course development, course modifications, program advisory committees, Ministry accreditation, applied research activities, and on-going future program needs. Through your knowledge of and connection to Indigenous communities, nations, histories, knowledge systems, languages or pedagogies, the successful candidate will contribute to actualizing the College\xe2\x80\x99s commitments to Indigenizing the learning environment by engaging the College community broadly in Indigenous ways of knowing, doing, being and communicating.
Responsibilities

  • Employ teaching strategies and create learning environments drawing upon current best practices in teaching and learning, including, where deemed relevant and appropriate by the incumbent, Indigenous ways of knowing, doing, teaching and being in relation to Land, people and community
  • Participate in ongoing course curriculum and program design and revision, with a focus on informing from an understanding of or integrating Indigenous knowledges, perspectives and/or pedagogies, where deemed relevant and appropriate by the incumbent
  • Share in the collaborative development of a working and learning environment that positively values Indigenous possibility and Indigenous futures
  • Develop and maintain relationships with co-workers and external stakeholders including Elders, community leaders, community organizations and industry
  • Teach Indigenous Knowledges, Inclusive Leadership, and Entrepreneurism courses.
  • Utilize a variety of effective teaching/learning and assessment strategies, which includes technology, co-operative learning, critical approaches to pedagogy, and ways of knowing.
  • Participate in on-going course/curriculum design and revision.
  • Research, design, develop, and revise appropriate learning resources for students.
  • Apply a critical understanding of language proficiency and special needs issues in the classroom.
  • Remain current in technical knowledge and instructional delivery techniques including Universal Design Learning.
  • Participate in professional development including reflective practice.
  • Provide and promote a respectful and supportive environment based on principles and world views of Indigenous peoples (First Nations, Inuit and Metis), non-Indigenous and western principles of inclusion, equity and diversity.
  • Liaise and communicate with students, faculty, management and external partners/community members
  • Provides academic support to students as required
  • Possesses experience, insight and knowledge in curriculum design, development and revision.
  • Attend meetings, maintain records of student grades/assessments, and participate in meetings and activities pertinent to faculty responsibilities
  • Evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes using a variety of techniques.
  • Critically examine learning materials and classroom instructional practice for systemic, structural and colonial bias or barriers

Qualifications/Experience
  • Strong experience gained as a result of being an Indigenous Knowledge Carrier which has been affirmed by an Indigenous (FNIM) body or organization.
  • Post- Secondary education an asset, to supplement Indigenous Knowledges.
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience at the Post-Secondary level.
  • Experience in teaching Indigenous Knowledges courses at the post-secondary level.
  • Knowledge of and connection to Indigenous knowledge systems, languages, pedagogies, nations and/or communities
  • Experience in the design of Indigenous course or learning materials.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrated skills and ability to advance and promote a respectful and supportive environment based on principles and world views of Indigenous peoples (FNIM) and western principles of inclusion, equity and diversity
  • Experience in application of technology in an online learning environment
  • Experience in curriculum development and course design.
  • Demonstrate ability to meet accessibility and accommodation needs of students.
  • Ability to communicate reflectively and show reciprocity in written, oral and non-verbal communication
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles and practices of equity, anti-racism, decolonizing and accessibility
