Job Description

The Import Specialist is responsible for coordinating and handling international and domestic freight shipments from suppliers to our facilities in US and Toronto.
Works closely with others, both internally and externally, to oversee all cargo is received and processed in a manner consistent with company policies, US and Canada customs regulations.

FUNDAMENTAL DUTIES

Coordinate and monitor supply chain operations

Prepare legal import documents for customs

Complete knowledge of all documentation and procedure requires for CBP clearance (air and ocean imports)

Coordinate all aspects of air/ocean freight, abiding by import / export customs regulations and demonstrating knowledge in a team-orient, deadline-driven environment.

Sets up all Costings - Container and Air shipments for Finance purposes

Responsible for Container Tracking / Status reports

Manages ETA changes for shipments

Reviewing purchase orders and shipping documents to ensure accuracy

Reviews and compiles weekly reports for US Customs reporting purposes

Manages PO files and their accuracy

Maintains Container files in Great Plains (knowledge of this program or similar w/b a bonus).

Requests and follows up on missing shipping Documents from vendors

Creates all shipments in the system

Making special shipping arrangements as necessary

Developing processes that make the supply chain more efficient and organized

Keep proper records of all forms of transactions relating to the company's logistics operations

Resolve problems that are related to transportation and logistics systems

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Keen attention to detail, quick critical thinking and problem-solving abilities

Highly developed planning and organization skills required.

Basic computer knowledge of Windows- based operating systems

Experience with shipping software and highly skilled in Excel.

Knowledge of Federal and State laws concerning freight claims and shipping regulations.

Experience with import (from Asia preferred) and US Custom Regulations helpful.

Effective communication, including writing, speaking and interpersonal communication

Excellent customer service and client relations skills

Time management skills

Good collaboration and teamwork abilities

Great leadership and goal-setting skills

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Advanced data analysis and data visualization

Understanding of the supply chain, including common obstacles and effective solutions

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Minimum 2-3 years shipping, logistics and traffic coordination experience in a high-volume environment
