The HR team consists of functional units such as HR Operations (Payroll and Data Management, HR Client Services, HR Systems Strategy, Reporting and Analytics), Talent, Equity & Development, Total Compensation, Employee & Labour Relations, and Employee Health, Safety & Wellness, who enable the delivery of comprehensive Human Resources programs and services in collaboration with leaders, HR area offices and HR practitioners across our community.
About the Position
Reporting to the Program Manager, Workforce Data Administration, and working under the leadership of the Senior Manager, Payroll Services, Taxation and Data Compliance, the
Human Resources Advisor-Workforce Data Administration
willprovide a full range of support services, with a distinct emphasis on HR data processing and administrative support, continuous improvement, data management and compliance. The HR Advisor-Workforce Data Administration will work closely with our HR partners, department administrators, as well as employees within their assigned portfolio to ensure delivery of service excellence.
Utilizing a customer-focused approach to human resources, the HR Advisor-Workforce Data Administration works both independently and collaboratively to provide a broad range of services including general payroll inquiries, payment and corrections processing, leave of absence processing and administration support, in addition to actively participating in HRIS and business process enhancements and new initiative launches.

exceptional attention to detail
and the ability to change direction quickly as the volume and complexity is high while the importance of accurate data processing and answering client inquiries is a top priority. The HR Advisor-Workforce Data Administration will ensure accuracy of all records within their portfolio through the maintenance of a structured audit process, and by conducting regular systems and reporting reviews to ensure data integrity.
The HR Advisor-Workforce Data Administration is responsible for:
Ensuring the accuracy of employee data setup which includes processing of hiring paperwork, appropriate taxation forms, direct deposit enrolment, change and pay cancellations
Coordinating payroll administration by ensuring timely and accurate pay processing in accordance with National Payroll Institute, Employment Standards, Canada Revenue Agency, various collective agreements, and University policies.
Consideration of tax implications when processing payments including retiring allowances, special premium payments, scholarship payments, and other miscellaneous payments
Administering the benefits for employees and retirees which include more than forty-five individual benefit plans. Details include determining eligibility, enrolment, entitlement inquiries and implementation of changes to the individual's personal circumstances.
Processing all approved leaves and administering the benefit, salary, and pension/RRSP options of each in accordance with the applicable collective agreement, McMaster University Faculty Association (MUFA) handbook, Pension Plan texts, and Employment Standards Act.
Supporting the administration of the McMaster University retirement plans, specifically three defined benefit pension plans and a Group RRSP Plan.
Providing coaching and support to new and current administrators regarding payroll administration and special premium payments.
Providing general HR support with emphasis on achieving HR operational excellence standards set forth from HR Operations and improving HR standard operating procedures/ employee relations and engagement through best practices.
Provide support and guidance to employees on payroll related matters.

The
preferred candidate
has at least
2 years
progressively responsible human resources experience with HRIS job data/workforce systems, and payroll/benefits administration. You have a university degree with a focus in Business Administration/Human Resources, in addition to:
Practical knowledge of human resources administration, payroll best practices, data management and audit processes
Experience working with HRIS/Payroll systems, working knowledge of Peoplesoft is preferable
Certified Human Resources Professional Designation (CHRP) is an asset
Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) Designation is an asset
Proficient computer literacy with MS Office applications (Word, Excel)
Experience in a unionized environment is an asset
