The HR team consists of functional units such as HR Operations (Payroll and Data Management, HR Client Services, HR Systems Strategy, Reporting and Analytics), Talent, Equity & Development, Total Compensation, Employee & Labour Relations, and Employee Health, Safety & Wellness, who enable the delivery of comprehensive Human Resources programs and services in collaboration with leaders, HR area offices and HR practitioners across our community.

About the Position:




Reporting to the Program Manager, Employee Contact Centre and working under the leadership of the Senior Manager, HR Client Services, the HR Coordinator - Employee Contact Centre provide a full range of advice and services to the McMaster University community.


Utilizing a customer-focused approach to human resources, the HR Coordinators -Employee Contact Centre work independently and collaboratively to provide advice and service regarding a broad range of HR issues including recruitment, onboarding, benefits, pensions, Group RRSP, payroll, policy and collective agreement administration, operational aspects of compensation and HRIS support.

Core Responsibilities:




In a collaborative team environment, which embraces the values of integrity, teamwork, and inclusivity, the HR Coordinator is expected to:


Provide exemplary guidance and support to prospective and current staff, faculty, retirees, by responding to HR inquiries related to University policies and processes through a variety of communication platforms, including the JIRA ticketing system and phone.


Administers the McMaster Tuition Assistance and Bursary program.


Provide administrative support and lead the process for employment verification letters.


Participate in validation and cleanup of data in the HRIS to maintain data integrity.


Proactively identify operational efficiencies and present recommendations for continuous improvement opportunities.

To be successful in this role, you must have a passion for service excellence, continuous improvement and building strong and positive relationships with diverse stakeholders. You are a top performer in your current role with a proven track record of:


At least 2 years progressively responsible human resources experience as an HR coordinator or administrator.


You have a University degree with a focus in Business Administration/Human Resources.


Prioritizing and being able to manage multiple priorities.


Demonstrate strong resourcefulness and initiative, with the ability to independently locate and interpret information from various resources to support informed decision-making and effective service delivery.


Proficient human literacy with MS Office applications (Word, Excel).


Superior communication, influencing and interpersonal skills.


Sound analytical, problem solving, and negotiation skills.


A broad understanding of human resources issues with the ability to resolve complex situations in a diplomatic manner.


Being results driven and able to demonstrate creativity and sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.


Tact in dealing with difficult or sensitive situations across a broad range of clients.
