The Position
This role is responsible for the financial, operational, customer and human resources objectives of Hotel and Convention departments. This position will also provide critical support to the Vice President of Operations, BC East in developing and executing strategic, operational and policy initiatives to enhance the financial contribution and effectiveness of Hotel and Convention operations.
Key Responsibilities
Provides strategic leadership in hotel operations and assists with budget presentation, capital plan and development projects.
Oversees the Hotel Rooms division and Convention Services department.
Provides operational leadership and support on large convention bookings during high volume banquet seasons and other high profile events.
Ensures accuracy in recording all details on contracts, proposals and correspondence with particular emphasis on menu information, pricing, organization and set-up and billing requirements.
Initiates credit arrangements for catering customers with the accounting department.
Assists in the development of convention menus and pricing.
Provides leadership and management support to Hotel and Convention staff.
Manages performance through performance management, ongoing coaching, training, and the discipline process.
Oversees the purchasing process of all Hotel and Convention supplies and equipment.
Develops systems and procedures that achieve higher cost efficiency, particularly labour.
Works closely with all department managers including casino operations to identify cross marketing opportunities and facility wide promotions.
Manages recruitment, training and staff development to enhance the strength and effectiveness of staff and managers' ability to achieve strategic and operational objectives.
Maintains a thorough and updated knowledge of company policies and procedures.
Provides creative solutions to meet the customers' needs by up-selling and making menu modifications.
Ensures compliance with food handling requirements and regulations.
Ensures compliance with provincial regulations including health and safety.
Acts as an energetic leader, fostering teamwork among conference service staff, maintaining positive employee relations and promoting open communication.
Takes on additional responsibilities as required.
What You Bring
Minimum 5 years of Hospitality management experience.
Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory role.
Post secondary education in hospitality management or a related field.
Able to implement operational change.
Proven leadership skills - able to direct and supervise staff and able to promote teamwork.
Business acumen.
Proven costing and pricing techniques.
Excellent written and verbal communication - including ability to write external submissions.
Willing to work evenings and weekends.
Strong project management skills.
Strong customer service skills.
Excellent problem solving skills.
Self motivated, detail oriented, reliable, punctual, efficient and able to multi-task.
Working knowledge with word processing software, spreadsheets, email, Internet navigation, and presentation software.
