The Head Cook will provide an outstanding experience for our guests. Reporting to the Inside Operations Manager and the General Manager, the Head Cook will ensure food is cost-effective, portioned, delicious and presented in a visually appealing way. Leading your team of kitchen staff is an integral part of your role. This is a physically demanding position in a fast-paced environment that requires attention to detail, organisational skills and an ability to work with others under pressure.
Responsibilities
Lead the kitchen team in daily food preparation and meal service, ensuring consistency and quality in all dishes.
Develop and implement menus that reflect the preferences of our guests.
Supervise kitchen staff, providing training and guidance on food handling, safety protocols, and cooking techniques.
Act as quality control for all food leaving the kitchen.
Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
Monitor inventory levels of food supplies and ingredients, placing orders as necessary to ensure smooth operations.
Collaborate with management to create special event menu items.
Ensure proper storage of food items to minimize waste and maintain freshness.
Assist in the development of standard recipes to ensure consistent quality across all meals.
Prepare estimates for quanity of food required for each week.
Order stock for the next week of operations.
Receive and check off all deliveries.
Perform food rotation to ensure no unnecessary food spoilage.
Abide by all Northern Health and Food Safe standards.
Any other duties that may be requested of you, within your safety and comfort level.
Requirements
Proven experience as a cook or in a similar role within the restaurant or food service industry.
Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, meal planning, and kitchen operations.
Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices for handling food.
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in all aspects of kitchen management.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of quality.
Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends as needed.
