Environmental | Graphic Designer
Kramer Design Associates (KDA) is growing again and we are looking for an Environmental | Graphic Designer to support our team in the strategic design and development of environmental graphics, signage, wayfinding, placemaking and identity programs. KDA is an internationally recognized firm specializing in Signage and Wayfinding,
Digital Media Architecture, Street Furniture and Environmental Design Programs.
Our multi-disciplinary designers work collaboratively with our clients to design bespoke and mindful solutions for mixed-use developments, retail, hospitality, office, residential, parks, sports arenas and entertainment projects world-wide. Key Responsibilities
  • Create and design unique solutions for signage, wayfinding, placemaking and identity programs that meet the needs of the project.
  • Collaborate with KDA\xe2\x80\x99s staff of Architects, Industrial Designers, Graphic, New Media, and Signage Designers from a project\xe2\x80\x99s conceptual stage through to final implementation.
  • Support KDA Team in implementing details and production artwork.
  • Prepare and refine message schedules.
  • Assess design aspects related to Best Practice strategies.
  • Conduct research and site visits, review drawings | renderings and other documents to understand overall programmatic requirements, and | or existing conditions to determine effective design.
  • Prepare 3D visualizations, production drawings, and presentation packages.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, fabricators and printers.
  • Create informative, inspiring and organized client presentations that communicate a holistic design strategy.
Required Skills
  • Knowledgeable about design elements including typography, cartography, iconography, colour theory, composition and layout.
  • Effective communicator and self-motivator with the ability to provide creative input.
  • Detail-oriented with respect to accuracy and design consistency across a project\xe2\x80\x99s various creative platforms.
  • Proficient at understanding architectural plans, sections and elevations.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Understand AODA Guideline requirements; and legibility standards.
  • Demonstrate awareness of current design trends in environmental and graphic design.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English; French considered an asset.Required Experience and Technical SkillsBachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Graphic / Environmental, Industrial or Architectural Design required.
  • 3+ years of related experience working for a design, environmental, architectural or landscape firm.
  • Expert in Mac-based studio utilizing Adobe Creative Suite for design including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Proficiency in Hot Door CADTools, HTML, MS Office such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Competency in AutoCAD, Revit, 3D Studio Max, and Google SketchUp is a plus.
  • Knowledge of After Effects and Premier Pro a plus.
  • Knowledge of Premier Pro, Flash, HTML, Sketch Up or After Effects a plus.The following technical knowledge / experience would be also valuable:
  • Drawing elevations to scale in Adobe Illustrator using Hot Door CADTools.
  • Drawing location plans to scale with cross-references to signage drawings | elevations.
  • Knowledge of how file types translate from one piece of software to another i.e.- translating drawings from AutoCad to Illustrator and vice versa.
