Finance Manager
The Mississauga Food Bank's (TMFB) vision is a* Mississauga where no one goes hungry.* We relieve hunger in Mississauga by providing and promoting access to healthy food for people in need.
Job Purpose
Provide leadership to overall financial systems. The Finance Manager is responsible for carrying out day-to-day accounting functions and providing support for the financial management of project activities with accuracy, transparency and due diligence.
As a member of the Leadership team, work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to advance the mission, strengthen operations, and participate in strategic and operational planning.
ResponsibilitiesFinancial accounting and reporting (35%)

  • Ensure the appropriate accounting and control systems are in place and in accordance with GAAP for non-profit organizations and in compliance with TMFB contractual and legal obligations. Ensure controls are communicated and enforced across the organization including the development and revision of policies and systems.
  • Ensure smooth operation of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivables.
  • Monitor all spending to ensure that expenditures are properly documented and authorized
  • Monitor cash flow, purchasing and selling short-term investments to meet cash requirements and manages the relationship with the bank
  • Monitor the capital and reserve funds to ensure that they are being managed in accordance with donor and/or Board restrictions
  • Verify and classify data in the finance system (Quickbooks) to ensure that finances are maintained in an accurate and timely manner and all transactions are recorded
  • Update and manage the fixed assets register and post depreciation
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy
  • Maintain and update daily transactions, including accounts payable and receivable
  • Process Improvements & Project Management: Develop, document, and implement internal controls. Identify inefficiencies and revamp finance management tools & processes as required
Analysis and Reporting (30%)
  • Provide financial analysis, projections, and assessment. Make recommendations to ensure efficiency, advising on financial health on a timely basis and raising red flags when required
  • Ensures/creates accurate financial reports reflecting variances and projected results that are provided to the Executive and Leadership teams on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Prepares or approves the financial component in submissions and reports to funders
Budget (15%)
  • Plan, lead, and coordinate the annual budget and semi-annual forecast process. Develop the budget documents for submission to and approval of the Audit & Finance Committee and Board of Directors
  • Develop budgets for complex program grants for funder submissions
Compliance (15%)
  • Coordinate business of the Audit & Finance Committee and prepare relevant information
  • Ensure compliance with Revenue Canada requirements in the area of charitable activities and ensure these are integrated into TMFB systems and policies
  • Ensure the annual charity return is completed and submitted on time. Ensure appropriate and timely corporate registration and filings
  • Reporting and filing for HST, payroll taxes, property tax rebates, any other taxes or filings
  • Coordinate annual audit, ensuring with auditors that all significant accounting issues are being handled in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
Other Duties as Assigned (5%)Education and Experience
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) or exceptional knowledge of finances gained through equivalent experience
  • 5 years directly related experience including 2 years' experience implementing financial software systems
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software, preferably QuickBooks
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payment processing
  • Professional experience in a non-profit/charity a strong asset

  • Technical. Tech-savvy. Computer proficiency with strong skills in MS Office and/or Google Apps for business and computerized accounting systems (ie QuickBooks). TMFB is a cloud-based, paperless environment.
  • Communication. Speak, listen, and write in a clear, confident, respectful, thorough, and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques
  • Flexibility/adaptability. Flexible, versatile, and/or tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency. Adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions. Cope effectively with complexity and change

Compensation:
Starting salary of $80,000 - 82,000
Environment: This role is based on TMFB's offices. All staff are required to be fully vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus or will be subject to rapid tests every 2 days.
