Bearspaw First Nation is an independent signatory of Treaty 7 and is one of the three Stoney Nakoda First Nations who signed Treaty in 1877: the additional Nations that make up the three are Chiniki First Nation and Goodstoney First Nation. Currently, Bearspaw First Nation members live primarily at Mini Thni (Morley) located 65 km. west of Calgary on the Trans Canada Highway and Eden Valley located 120 km. south of Mini Thni near Longview. Bearspaw First Nation members speak the Stoney Nakoda language, which derives from the Nakoda dialect, part of the Sioux Assiniboine language family. To address a history of discriminatory practices as it relates to First Nations children, Canada is providing funding to establish a range of prevention programs and services intended to ensure that Indigenous children do not come to attention of child and family services. Bearspaw First Nation is establishing a prevention program to provide a range of supports to build strong and resilient families.
Position Summary:
The Family Resource Advisor will be responsible to meet with all families requesting basic needs support, completing a brief assessment, and determining what supports and resources can be provided to the family. They will also ensure that families are connected to ongoing services as needed and at times will provide short-term coaching support to ensure families have all their needs met.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Coordination: Organize the daily operations of the basic needs programs,
ensuring services are delivered efficiently and effectively.
Family Support: Build collaborative relationships with families and provide direct
support, including intake assessments, referrals, and follow-up services to ensure their
needs are met.
Budget and Resource Management: Working with the program supervisor and manager
will monitor expenditures to ensure that resources are used effectively with no
overspending. This could include the management and distribution of additional
resources such as food, clothing, and other essentials.
Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with families in the
community as well as with community partners to further the goal of offering a wide
range of meaningful activities and to ensure that families receive all the supports and
services they need, as identified in the intake and assessment process.
Collaboration: Coordinate with other prevention programs to ensure a comprehensive
and wholistic range of supports and services for children, youth, and families.
Compliance: Ensure all programs comply with relevant regulations, policies, and best
practices.
Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain complete and accurate records of all
interactions with families and participate in compiling necessary reports as required.
Qualifications:
Diploma or degree in the following fields is helpful, Human Services, Nonprofit
Management, or a related field. Equivalencies such as work experience and life
experience will be considered.
Experience working in a social work type role would be beneficial, preferably in a First
Nations setting.
A clear Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search, and an
Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment.
Valid Class 5 Driver's License, reliable vehicle, and clear driver's abstract.
