Mosaic - Newcomer Family Resource Network is a not-for-profit agency assisting in the settlement of newcomers to Winnipeg by providing community-based English as a Second Language classes and family programmes that include childcare for preschool children.

Job Overview:



The HIPPY Home Visitor is warm and friendly and can connect well with parents from a variety of backgrounds. The home visitor enjoys working with families with young children and can work well both independently, and as part of a team. This job requires someone who is flexible, compassionate, energetic, and has a desire to learn and grow in their skills and knowledge.

The HIPPY Home Visitor reports to HIPPY Co-ordinator.

HIPPY is a workplace training opportunity. Home visitors gain skills and knowledge that they can use to find permanent employment. The goal of the HIPPY program is to offer the Home Visitor position to community members on a 3-year rotating basis.

Responsibilities

:

Help with outreach to promote HIPPY and recruit families for the program. Make weekly home visits (make-up visits if necessary) to participating families for the purpose of modelling relationship-building activities that parents can do with their child. Participate in the planning and facilitating of group meetings, which may include role-playing the next week's sessions and/or co-facilitating information sessions or programs such as Wiggle, Giggle and Munch, Positive Discipline in Everyday Parenting, and Nobody's Perfect. Participate in weekly training sessions and other staff development activities. Attend all required Mothers Matter training sessions. Meet regularly with the HIPPY Co-Ordinator to discuss child/family progress and family issues and concerns as they arise. Complete and submit required reports and other documentation as required by the Co-Ordinator in a timely manner. Attend any Mosaic-mandated training and professional development opportunities. Attend the seasonal all facilitators meeting, all staff meetings, as well as the monthly team building meeting for family programs. Participate in all HIPPY sponsored activities (i.e. field trips, HIPPY celebration, etc.) Promote all of Mosaic's programs and services.

Qualifications

:

A current participant in the HIPPY program, preferred Ability to communicate effectively in any of these languages: Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, French, Swahili, Mandarin - preferred A parent of a three or four-year-old child or has access to a preschool child with whom to practice the activities A participant in Mosaic family programs and/or ESL classes, preferred Experience or education in early childhood, considered an asset A resident of the targeted community Access to public transportation or ownership of a vehicle (if needed) Good oral and written communication skills in English, including good reading skills Good organizational skills and ability to be task-oriented Ability to adhere to schedules and specific timetables Demonstrated potential leadership abilities while building rapport in a supportive environment Demonstrated emotional maturity and sensitivity to the needs and interests of the targeted community Ability to work in a multicultural environment, respecting diverse background and cultural values Ability to work cooperatively in a non-profit and volunteer-based organization Ability to attend a weekly in-person meeting at our downtown HIPPY office Some work on a computer is required, some data entry and basic computer skills are an asset. Ability to work flexible hours
- Candidate must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

- Selected candidate will be required to undergo a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).

Job Details:



Location: Knox Church 406 Edmonton St. and surrounding community

Schedule

: Monday to Friday,

25 hours per week

- Mosaic's business hours are 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, however, each Home Visitor's schedule is to be discussed with the HIPPY Co-ordinator.

- HIPPY follows the public school schedule with three unpaid breaks: Winter break (approximately 3 weeks), spring break (1 week), and summer break (approximately 2 months)

Job type: 3-year term

Salary

:

$17.11 per hour plus 4% vacation and access to Mosaic's group benefits after successful completion of the six-month probation period
