Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) Home Visitor

Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) is an evidence-based program that works in the home to support vulnerable and isolated mothers in their critical role as their child's first and most important teacher. HIPPY strengthens families and communities by empowering mothers to actively participate in Canadian society and prepare their children for success in school and life. Under the supervision of, and with training and support from the HIPPY Program Coordinator, Home Visitors provide the HIPPY program to mothers and help them to teach their 3-5 year old child and prepare them for school; and also develop their own career plan to prepare for future employment and/or educational opportunities after she leaves the program.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:



Deliver HIPPY curriculum to mothers on weekly home visits Train and practice role play with mothers for them to be able to teach their children Making bi-weekly visits (make -up visits, if necessary) to participating families for the purpose of role-playing activity packets Participate in the planning and execution of group meetings, which includes role-playing the subsequent week's activity packet and the provision of an enrichment activity. Participate in biweekly in-service training and other staff development activities and the transitioning planning Keeping the HIPPY Coordinator informed of child/family progress and family issues and concerns as they arise Timely completion and submission of required reports and other documentation as required Participate in all sponsored HIPPY activities (i.e., field trips, graduations, award ceremonies, etc.) Assist in maintaining an efficient record keeping system of program operations and participating families

Requirements:



High school diploma and a solid combination of on-the-job training and work experience in the community with families from diverse backgrounds. Excellent interpersonal, communication skills and proven ability to connect with mothers Minimum levels of CLB 6 Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs and interests of families from low socio-economic communities Proven ability to show empathy and care Strong ability to work in a team and independently Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic environment Cross-cultural awareness and experience in a multicultural environment Excellent organizational skills and ability to be task oriented Willingness to work as a productive and collaborative team member Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills Demonstrated emotional maturity and sensitivity to the needs and interests of the newcomer community Excellent computer skills Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector Social Development Check Valid driver's licence class 5 & Clean driver abstract

Terms of employment:



Contract - renewable pending continuation of funding and satisfactory job performance Hours of work - up to 40 hours per week Benefits- additional vacation days, sick days, and RRSP
