Position Summary





The HIPPY program is an evidence-based home visitation program that supports parents and guardians of children up to 5 years of age, particularly those who may be experiencing social or economic barriers or who may benefit from additional support and connection. HIPPY leverages Parent/Guardian motivation to give their children the best start in life and build their capacity, confidence and community connections as they take on the lead role in preparing their children for school. The Home Visitor, with training, support and supervision from the HIPPY Coordinator will provide deliver the HIPPY program to parents of and assist them in teaching their up to 5-year old children and preparing them for school. The HIIPY program in Kingston is a tri-agency program between Kingston Community Health Centres, KEYS Job Centre, and Kingston Native Centre and Language Nest.




Key Responsibilities



Program Responsibilities




Execute the HIPPY program in accordance with the terms specified in the contractual agreement Attend in person HIPPY training Practice school curriculum with HIPPY families Make weekly visits to participating families for the purpose of role-playing activity packets Participate in the planning and execution of group meetings, which include role-playing the subsequent week's activity packing and facilitating enrichment activities Keep the Coordinator abreast of child/family progress and familial issues and concerns as they arise. Participate in all HIPPY sponsored activities (such as field trips, graduations, award ceremonies etc.)



Administrative




Assist in maintaining an efficient record keeping system of program operations and participating families by entering data into the ETO system Complete and submit reports and other documentation as required by Mothers Matter Canada Work in conjunction with the local HIPPY steering committee to make program recommendations and work on sustainable funding. Contribute to the collection and analysis of reporting data Participate in local, regional and national HIPPY conferences, in-service training and meetings

Comply with all relevant legislation and KCHC policies, including privacy laws Commits to acquiring an understanding of the importance of trauma responsiveness and the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Commits to demonstrating an ongoing commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Indigenization and Accessibility (EDIIA) by representing the diverse nature of our communities, promoting and practicing inclusion Supports consistent application and development of KCHC policies and procedures Supports KCHC's student and volunteer placement programs Promotes awareness of and participation in KCHC activities Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement On occasion, perform other temporary duties as required



Basic Education and Experience Requirements




College Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE), preferred or equivalent relevant experience 2-5 years' experience working in early childhood education with specific experience in home visiting



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities




Knowledge of Child Welfare Legislation Knowledge of parenting issues and experience working with families in a community setting Strong understanding of the strengths and challenges of Kingston families, including parenting in communities facing barriers to health (ie. Low socio economic conditions) Strong knowledge of Indigenous culture; including cultural competency and governance Proficiency with computer system and relevant software Good oral and written communication skills, including strong reading skills Above average communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to being a "team player" Ability to work during both regular and extended hours in locations identified by KCHC



Other Requirements




Current and satisfactory Criminal and Vulnerable Persons Check. Valid Driver's Licence, Driver's Abstract and proof of vehicle liability insurance as this is a requirement under KCHC's insurance provider (HIROC). This job requires driving between locations throughout the day. Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis. Current CPR and First Aid, or willingness to be certified Up to date immunizations and TB test.
