WSP Canada Inc is currently seeking Junior Environmental Technicians to join our team in Newfoundland and Labrador. The
successful candidates will work within the Ecology team, under the supervision of the Team Lead and/or Group Coordinator. Primary responsibilities will include the completion of fisheries surveys, water sampling and aquatic resource assessments on a variety of projects, as delegated by the Team Lead and/or Group Coordinator. Other opportunities may arise to help other groups under the St. John's office, such as the Site Assessment and Remediation Group. Positions are available in St. John's and Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL.
Skills/Qualifications
Current enrollment in a degree or technical diploma program in Biology of Environmental
Science or recent graduate
Solid technical and/or academic background in biological sciences
Relevant technical or regulatory experience from the consulting industry is a major asset but
not critical
Experience, keen interest or ongoing training with some or all the following:
+ Fish inventory and aquatic habitat assessment techniques
+ Fish life history and habitat requirements, particularly for Atlantic Canada species
+ Familiarity with Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial and Federal regulatory requirements for terrestrial and aquatic environments
+ Estuary/marine collection of water and sediment samples
+ Environmental assessment
+ Field program preparation and field setup
+ Water, sediment, and fish/invertebrate tissue sampling
+ Data collection and processing
Able to work effectively as a member of a team, and willing to be trained in various environmental (both marine
and freshwater aquatic) methods and tasks
Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and written
Compensation and Benefits
WSP will offer a competitive salary based on the successful candidate's experience and knowledge. Standard work weeks will be 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday. Overtime, weekend, and remote work may be required on a project specific basis.
