Sphere Environmental Ltd. (formerly Steer Environmental Associates Ltd.), a growing environmental consulting firm, is seeking a motivated and experienced

Environmental Technician

to join our team.

At Sphere, we offer a wide range of environmental services, including hazardous materials assessments, abatement compliance monitoring, air quality assessments, environmental monitoring, and contaminated site assessment and remediation services. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



The successful candidate will take a leading role in:

Conducting hazardous material surveys and assessments, including sampling for asbestos, lead, mould, and silica per WorkSafeBC regulatory requirements. Performing compliance monitoring for hazardous material abatement projects, including visual inspections and air monitoring. Conducting radon monitoring in residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings. Managing laboratory chain-of-custody documentation, data interpretation, and technical report preparation. Assisting in the preparation of risk assessments, exposure control plans, and safe work procedure compliance documentation as per WorkSafeBC. Knowledge of building components and systems is considered an asset. Environmental monitoring and assessment, including soil, groundwater, surface water, and vapour/indoor air sampling. Familiarity with environmental site assessment (ESA) requirements, BC Contaminated Sites Regulation (CSR), and Hazardous Waste Regulation (HWR) considered an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS



Education and Experience

:

Post-secondary diploma or degree in science-related field, industrial hygiene, or health and safety discipline.

1-5 years of work experience

in environmental- or hygiene-related fields. WorkSafeBC Level-S Surveyor Safety course considered an asset. Formal and on-the-job training opportunities will be provided.

Skills and Attributes

:

Strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong technical writing and data interpretation. Confident verbal communicator with excellent interpersonal skills. Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PDF tools. Familiarity with hand and power tools.

Other Requirements

:

Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle for work-related travel. Physical ability to climb ladders, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in adverse weather conditions. Willingness to travel frequently within the region and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as and when needed.
