We are looking to fill a 3-month contract starting Late August / Early September 2025 for the position of Environmental Technician. We are seeking an energetic individual who is motivated to bring positive change to freshwater and coastal ecosystems. The ideal candidate will be passionate about environmental causes, be self-motivated, and have an inquisitive scientific mind. The candidate will have an environmental science (or similar) background.
The staff will work directly with the project coordinator to complete project tasks related to water conservation and environmental monitoring projects. Tasks will include seawater collection, storage, internal analysis (ie. fluorometry) and third party analysis, probe deployment for basic water measurements, aquatic connectivity assessments, aquatic invasive species management, and community outreach.

Probe sampling
Seawater collection
Fluorometry
Field site visits
Documenting collected samples
Laboratory and storage coordination (including 3rd party analysis)
Using and maintaining specialized sampling equipment
Data entry using laboratory results
Requirements:
College diploma or greater in environmental studies, water quality or equivalent
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
Valid driver's license to visit sites in the Northeast Avalon Region
Knowledge of water quality and monitoring protocols would be considered an asset
Basic knowledge of local plant and wildlife species
Willingness to occasionally work outside normal business hours (e.g. field work)
Ability to assist the project coordinator in overseeing the work of volunteers and student employees
