Environmental Technician

The core activities of the project encompass an ecosystem-based approach to habitat conservation. This includes identifying, surveying, and monitoring target species at risk, program planning and development, incorporating Indigenous Traditional Knowledge, conducting habitat restoration and improvement research, implementing habitat improvement measures, and mitigating human impacts. By embracing an ecosystem-based strategy inspired by Indigenous Peoples' traditional practices, the project aims to foster collaboration among governmental bodies, non-profit environmental groups, and Indigenous communities to utilize their vast knowledge in improving and restoring populations of aquatic species at risk.

This individual will work with NBAPC's Natural Resources Manager and Project Coordinators to complete comprehensive data collection, conduct data analysis, and engage local communities to create and implement detailed restoration and improvement plans for priority areas.

The NBAPC is looking for one Environmental Technician Crew Lead. This is a full-time in-person position, $23/hour, 37.5 hours per week starts October 1, 2025, and ends March 31, 2026. Can be extended pending future projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:



Conduct sampling for water quality, eDNA, and other parameters as required.

Perform various assessments and surveys such as electrofishing, mussel surveys, impact assessments, land classification and evaluations, and others as required.

Perform field duties such as tree planting, bank restoration, installation of monitoring devices, and others as required.

Compile, analyze, and report on collected data and field work.

Mapping of sampling activities using ArcGIS Pro, Avenza, and Google Earth Pro.

Travel to sampling sites via truck, side-by-side, boat, or foot, on public, private, and government owned land.

Participate in outreach events with local indigenous and non-indigenous community members and stakeholders.

Work closely with internal teams to align event goals with broader project objectives.

Qualifications:



A degree/diploma in environmental science, Indigenous studies, project planning and/or management , or a related field.

1-2 years of experience performing similar duties as outlined.

Valid Class 5 License

Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Experience with technical scientific reporting and data analysis considered an asset.

Experience with mapping software including ArcGIS Pro considered an asset.

Experience engaging with indigenous communities considered an asset.

Valid First Aid/CPR considered an asset.
