Beltline Business Improvement Area (BIA
)is one of Calgary's most vibrant and diverse districts -- home to hundreds of local businesses, restaurants, arts organizations, and community events. The BIA works to support local economic growth, enhance public spaces, and strengthen connections.
Through placemaking projects, beautification initiatives, and community programming, the Beltline BIA helps make the area a destination for culture, creativity, and commerce.
We also oversee the
BLOX Arts Centre
, a community hub dedicated to supporting local artists, musicians, and creative organizations through affordable space, collaboration, and events that celebrate the Beltline's unique creative energy.
Position Overview
The
Engagement & Operations Assistant
plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the BIA and assisting with projects that engage and benefit the local business community. This position combines administrative coordination, community outreach, grant writing and research plus event and project support.
The ideal candidate is organized, very personable, and passionate about community-building -- someone who enjoys balancing behind-the-scenes logistics with front-line engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Support
Manage general office tasks, including document filing, invoice tracking, and database organization.
Maintain accurate records for projects, vendors, and business contacts.
Assist with scheduling, correspondence, and coordination of internal meetings.
Submitting 311 tickets for area concerns
Grant Writing & Reporting
Research potential funding and sponsorship opportunities.
Draft grant applications and supporting materials in collaboration with the Executive Director.
Track grant timelines, deliverables, and reporting requirements to ensure compliance and timely submission.
Business Engagement
Conduct on-site visits with member businesses to gather feedback and share updates.
Support the creation of engagement summaries and reports highlighting business needs, participation, and community sentiment.
Build and maintain positive relationships with local stakeholders.
Event & Project Support
Assist with event planning, logistics, and on-site coordination
Help deliver community programs such as beautification projects, placemaking activations, and seasonal initiatives.
Research & Logistics
Conduct background research to support new projects and strategic initiatives.
Identify and help coordinate partnerships with local organizations, artists, and businesses.
Requirements & Qualifications
Strong organizational and communication skills
Must be comfortable engaging with businesses and community members in person, including initiating conversations and representing the BIA in a positive, professional manner.
Comfortable with the physical demands of the role, including walking long distances (up to 5-10 km during events and engagement), standing for extended periods, and occasionally lifting up to 40lbs for event setup/teardown.
Comfortable working independently and collaboratively
Proficient with Google Workspace
Interest or experience in community development, events, or nonprofit administration
Grant writing experience or education is
required
Occasional evening or weekend availability may be needed for community events
Must be able to commute to the Beltline community in Calgary most working days
Laptop, ipad, computer or equivalent required
Location:
Beltline BIA / BLOX Arts Centre, Calgary, AB. Plus hybrid option.

Salary range
: $47,500 - $60,000, opportunity for grant and performance bonuses
