InnoTech Alberta is seeking a Business Development Professional who will enhance brand awareness and cultivate business development opportunities for InnoTech applied research solutions by fostering relationships within the Government, Intermediary, and Commercial Market Sectors. This role will serve as a primary resource to promote InnoTech services and solutions and identify service offerings to meet the needs of clients. This role will also facilitate opportunities for partnerships, joint ventures, and other business opportunities.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Client Services Delivery & Operations, the Director will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
  • Develop and execute long and short-term business development strategies including coordination of cross-functional sales and marketing initiatives within the Market Sectors to promote teams and expertise, identification of critical customer needs, and development of tactics to enhance and advance business relationships and initiatives
  • Source business leads, qualify business opportunities and prospects, and is responsible for the proposal development process including securing commitments, negotiating contracts, and closing deals
  • Manage Market Sector development plans, develop and maintain sales pipelines, and determine strategies and tactics to develop sales prospects
  • Manage development and execution of corporate branding and marketing campaigns in collaboration with our Communications department
  • Support corporate demand management efforts and keep management teams apprised of leads and new developments
  • Oversee corporate key and target account management in the Government, Intermediary, and Commercial Sectors, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, maintaining in-depth understanding of client needs/issues, identifying opportunities to leverage relationships, and identifying opportunities to promote and grow services and solution offerings
  • Leverage key relationships within the Market Sectors to stay abreast of and be involved in the development of research and innovation strategies and needs
  • Work with management teams to develop cross-functional service offerings to proactively address needs of key partnership/accounts, and promote opportunities to engage in business with InnoTech Alberta
  • Lead initiatives to gather stakeholder and customer feedback, monitor and analyze industry market intelligence, emerging trends, competitor landscape, and implications on future business development opportunities in the Market Sectors
  • Monitor business and technology trends, public policy innovation, research and technology objectives, and industry needs in order to identify potential business opportunities
  • Prepare business cases and recommendations based on market research for presentation to management
  • Lead development of relationships with all levels of InnoTech Alberta and Alberta Innovates management and colleagues to understand business opportunities and collaborate on business development initiatives
  • Facilitate opportunities for internal teams at InnoTech Alberta and Alberta Innovates to develop full-service solutions and offerings that can address Market Sector client needs
  • Represent InnoTech at conferences and tradeshows
Qualifications and skills we are looking for:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in business administration, Commerce, Science, Engineering, Math, Computing Science or a related discipline
  • Minimum 10 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in progressively responsible business development roles
  • Strong ability to establish and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to collaborate with executives and research and development teams
  • Sound judgement and creative problem-solving skills
  • Business development, leadership, and influencing skills
  • Independent and self-directed but able to work with and lead teams of creative individuals
  • Willing to take calculated risks
  • Able to manage expectations of both internal development teams and potential or existing customers
  • Possess an inquisitive and creative mind
  • Superior research and analytical skills to track and predict trends
  • Able to work creatively within a budget and use innovation to find ways of effectively managing resources
  • Able to communicate successfully on a variety of disciplines and levels with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Exceptional verbal, written, listening, and interpersonal skills to convey concepts and information
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
  • Facilitation and presentation skills
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks, work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be a self-starter who takes the initiative to explore opportunities and develop and evaluate sources
