POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The Day Camp Leader is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the camp, ensuring the safety, well-being, and engagement of all campers and staff. The role includes supervising staff, coordinating activities, managing logistics, and fostering a positive camp environment that promotes teamwork, learning, and fun.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Staff SupervisionProvide leadership and support to camp staff, including training, mentoring, and ongoing supervision. Ensure staff are fulfilling their responsibilities and adhering to camp policies and procedures. Conduct regular check-ins with staff to address challenges and provide constructive feedback.

Program CoordinationOversee the planning and implementation of camp activities, ensuring alignment with program goals. Adapt schedules and activities as needed to accommodate camper needs, weather, or unforeseen circumstances. Monitor activity quality, ensuring all programming is engaging, inclusive, and age-appropriate.

Camper Safety & Well-beingEnsure a safe environment by enforcing safety protocols and addressing risks proactively. Handle camper issues, including conflicts, behavioral challenges, and first aid situations, promptly and professionally. Maintain open communication with parents/guardians, providing updates as needed.

Administrative ManagementManage attendance records, incident reports, and other camp documentation. Coordinate daily logistics, including transportation, supplies, and facility use. Support budget management by tracking expenses and minimizing waste.

Leadership & CollaborationServe as a role model for campers and staff by demonstrating professionalism, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude. Collaborate with other supervisors and the Camp Manager to ensure consistency and alignment across all camp activities. Lead team meetings and participate in debriefs to review progress and identify areas for improvement.

WORKING CONDITIONS:This is a temporary position from June 23 to August 29, 2025 at 30 hours per week. This position requires long hours of both indoor and outdoor activity. This position requires individuals to work in close proximity to others in a fast-paced and sometimes crowded environment, often outdoors. The work can be physically taxing and requires good mobility.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures. Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:Relevant post-secondary coursework or education, adequate training and/or relevant experience is preferred (ex: Education program completion or degree, Outdoor Survival Skills, Theological Studies, Administration, Program Coordination). Standard First Aid + CPR & AED (Intermediate First Aid). Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered. Police check with vulnerable sector search Child intervention check

Experience and Knowledge:1 year experience working in a summer camping program setting.

Skills and Capabilities:Clearance through internal Salvation Army child & youth abuse prevention protocols. Work within the total camp program and cooperate with other staff members. Flexible and have a good disposition. Able to maintain a responsible level of maturity and leadership. Able to lift, carry or move up to 29 lbs.

Compensation:
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
