Position Title: Coordinator, Learning Services

Status: Full Time

Hours: 35 hours/week

Faculty/Department: Student Learning Services, Student Success & Engagement

Campus/Location: North Campus

Salary: Payband H (Min) $33.38 (Max) $38.75

What you will do

The Coordinator, Learning Services, creates and supports student learning initiatives within Peer Assisted Learning Support (PALS) and the Math and Writing Centres (M&WC). The incumbent collaborates closely with faculty partners to ensure academic learning

support programs are created and maintained, which effectively support student learners. Close collaboration is also required between the incumbent and PALS and M&W team members, to develop programs, supports and services, at the direction of the Manager,

which reduce barriers to equity deserving students, meet student academic needs, and meet faculty expectations.

The incumbent is responsible for all processes in the recruitment, hiring and training of Student Staff. They will provide on going training and assessment, along with coaching and feedback to allow student staff to improve, grow and evolve in the roles.

The incumbent will have a strong understanding of student development theory, Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), along with student learning theory. The incumbent will review best practices, collect Humber and University of Guelph Humber data, research

industry leading certifications and standards to ensure approaches, programs and techniques are best positioned to meet student needs. The incumbent will need to be adaptable and responsive to first, understand student, faculty and collaborators (ie. IGNITE)

needs, and then be able to proactively and effectively meet those learning needs.

The incumbent will be responsible for the Assessment and Marketing of programming from PALS and M&WC. This will require the planning and development of a marketing strategy to reach and communicate to students and faculty: to explain our services and their

benefits and ensure that these facts are widely known (using social media, reoccurring advertising, traditional approaches, etc.). Qualitative (satisfaction, suggestions, etc.) and quantitative (GPA, persistence, engagement, participation rates, etc.) assessment will be

ongoing throughout the year, providing evidence of programmatic impact, which can then be used in communications, inform practice and demonstrate the importance of PALS and M&WC work.

Qualifications

What you bring to the role

Education

  • 4 year degree or equivalent in Education, Social/behavioural sciences or equivalent/related area of study with practical experience in post secondary education, in learning support
  • Certificate in Supplemental Instruction is strongly beneficial
Experience/Skills
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a Post Secondary (College or University) environment; in a student learning support capacity.
  • Relevant skills to be successful include:
  • Knowledge of inclusive and equitable recruiting, hiring and training practices for student leaders
  • Strong communication skills including coaching and providing feedback
  • Experience with designing innovative, adaptable programs, content, student learning tools and services that meet the needs of students and faculty, including on-line learning.
  • Knowledge of how robust quantitative and qualitative evaluation and assessment practices, including reporting and implementing data informed programmatic changes, innovations and design.
  • Strong collaboration skills with key stakeholders to address gaps in learning supports and the curriculum.
  • Commitment to professional learning to ensure best practice and standardized supports provincially, nationally and internationally.
  • Experience in marketing and promotions including developing a marketing plan (social media, website content, traditional marketing [tabling, service fairs, posters, open house, etc.])
