Science North is pleased to be looking for a Communications Specialist to join its Executive Office team. In this new role, you will help write, support, and implement a broad array of internal and external communications.

Job Summary:
This position supports Science North\xe2\x80\x99s internal/external communications functions. Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Executive Office, the Communications Specialist works jointly with the Executive Office and CEO to develop overarching strategies and tactics for effective communications. This includes developing and writing internal and external communications as needed. This position interacts regularly with all levels of the organization and can be called upon to provide advice, support and/or communications-related services as needed. The position requires a fluently bilingual individual who has seasoned experience, the ability to prioritize, and generally a \xe2\x80\x9cbig picture\xe2\x80\x9d view of the organization and the external environment in which it operates.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, write and edit a variety of communications materials, including press releases, blog posts, social media content and designated internal communications to staff.
  • Ensure that all communications material aligns with brand standards
  • Implements the organization\xe2\x80\x99s external and internal communication strategies, including media/public relations, general communications, and employee-focused communications, in line with the organization\xe2\x80\x99s mandate, strategy and values.
  • Helps identify, develop, and maintain key communication channels, adapting and improving them in line with external trends and business needs.
  • Helps drive and execute external and internal communications through various channels (websites, social media, email/text campaigns, etc.) as needed.
  • Helps support internal intranets with content that meet the communications needs across Science North.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to help drive internal communications around group-wide initiatives and programs.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor\'s degree or Diploma in communications, journalism, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years\' relevant experience in a communications role
  • Must possess exceptional writing skills and be able to compose engaging and accurate content for both internal and external audiences
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing software
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management, organizational skills and attentive to detail
  • Ability to think strategically and identify ways to improve communication efforts
  • Must be resourceful and take initiative even when given minimal direction
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media platforms
  • Bilingual (verbal/written) English/French required
